Title: A600HD problems
Post by: DD_One on February 24, 2008, 06:27:37 PM
Hello!

I'm new to this fine site, but I have read alot of the threads here and can see that many of you are class A experts when it comes to the Amiga.

I have a problem with one of my A600HD's I just bought. It has a 4 gig HDD and Kickstart 3.1 but when I partition the HDD - one bootable 865MB partition and 3.2 gig partition - I get "Not a DOS disk" on the second one. I can however install WB 2.05 on the first partition, but when I reboot it doesn't load WB. It just goes to shell. Can anyone give me some pointers as to what to try?

Could be a boot priority problem. In HDToolbox, make sure you have access to the Advanced Options in the partitioning window (click the checkbox), and make sure your ~800MB partition is the only one with the "bootable" flag checked. It should have a boot priority of 1.

Since you're using Kickstart 3.1, you should probably get some 3.1 disks - mixing versions could cause some problems. Software Hut, Amigakit, and Vesalia can probably get you some.

EDIT: Might also be a filesystem problem. Make sure there's nothing installed in the RDB and that the partitions are using FFS International Mode (DOS/03).

Make sure there's nothing installed in the RDB

How do I check that?
