I bought a networking kit and they only talk about linking it to the pc itself but i wanted to link it to my router which as 4 ports on the back and 2 are being used at the moment by 2 pc`s. I am trying to link it to the router and to the amiga to ftp from the pc's but i cant find the ip number to link it to on the router.
Any way i can find the ip number at all on the amiga or on the pc?

On your PC, open a command prompt and type ipconfig (for 2000, XP etc.), or select Run from the startmenu and type winipcfg (95, 98, ME).
Look for the default gateway or DHCP server address, that will be the router. Common addresses are 10.0.0.2 or 192.168.1.1.

my gateway is 10.0.0.2 and it still says it cant connect

Well, you need to supply some real info if you expect us to solve your problem, not just an outline of the scenario.
Which TCP/IP stack are you using? Which network card? Cabled or wireless network? Give us a clue.

ok i`m using an ethernet 3 lan pc card in the side slot with amitcp to mount it all up then i am using FTPMount to mount a PC folder onto workbench where i can access at least one of the pc's.
The router is a wired router with 4 network ports on the back. 2 are used for pcs and now 1 for the amiga.
On my pc i have a static IP number 10.0.0.8 and the gateway is 10.0.0.2 my wifes pc is on 10.0.0.9

Is the "can't connect" error being produced by the AmiTCP or FTPMount?

1. try if you can ping the router's IP (else check cable connection)
2. try if you can ping your DNS server's IP (else check default gateway setting)
3. try if you can resolve addresses by pinging by name instead of IP (else check DNS settings)
4. if all above works and the FTP connect fails, it's your router and/or FTP setup
Note that pings might fail because the devices/hosts are set up to not answer them.

I believe if you're connecting to a router you need a crossover cable - or the other way round - I can't remember which :-?
Have you got the right cable?

Crossover cables go from Node to Node.
Normal Cat5 cables go from Node to Router.
Although, most recent routers/ NICs can use either type of cable without problems...

Hi,
When I connect my a1200 to PC by ethernet I use MiamiDeluxe rather than AmiTCP, and for file transfer: AmigaExplorer. I couldn't setting the AmiTCP to work. From Amiga to PC use crossconnect cable, from amiga to router use normal CAT5 cable. Did you install the network card driver on your amiga?
