Internet stack, such as Genesis, Miami
A browser, such as IBrowse or Aweb

You pretty much have the hardware

Technically, OS3.9 does come with a TCP/IP stack and a browser.
You'll need some method of physically connecting the Amiga to the an Internet gateway, such as a NIC or a modem..

Where I can find Stacks like Genesis or Miami?

Are they in OS 3.9

I got an EasyNet from AmigaKit is a Network Card PCI and I installed the software of the CD and intstalled AWeb too.
But when I try to type an internet page it says that a TCP stack must be started first.

Where can I find the TCP stack?

Thanks

I think Genesis is the one that comes with 3.9.  And, I think there was a SYS:Internet drawer, could be wrong.
Miami is technically no longer available.

Canyou tell me a working stack?

thanks
Title: Re: Amiga surfing the WEB

EasyNet is the stack - no need for Genesis/Miami

Please open EasyNet, goto the HELP menu and select Network Configuration Help

This is an in-built diagnostic tool that identifies problems with the network configuration that is preventing you go online.

it says that the ethernet card is not installed.

Where are the driver of the EasyNet card?

what is its name?

thanks

I would have to guess easynet.device or something.  Check your DEVS:Networks.  If you don't find anything there, use the Window\Find... feature of OS3.9's Workbench, and search the disk that came with the card for files named ".device"
Title: Re: Amiga surfing the WEB

In Network Configuration help I have an error

FastEthernet.device (not installed)

where can I find it?

thanks
Title: Re: Amiga surfing the WEB
Post by: amigakit on February 18, 2008, 12:58:25 AM
That error is why you can't connect to the Net.  The SANA II network driver is not available.

FastEthernet.device is an Elbox file found on the Mediator MMCD.  We cannot distribute this file on the EasyNet CD.

Copy the FastEthernet.device to DEVS:Networks drawer of your System partition.

I don't have a Networks Drawer in DEVS

why?
Title: Re: Amiga surfing the WEB
Post by: AMC258 on February 18, 2008, 01:15:49 AM
Because you never created it :-)

Here's an icon for it: http://stash.amc258.com/AMC258/Amiga/Networks.info

Because you don't have installed any TCP stack/device in your system.

 Follow this procedure:

Open the DEVS: drawer, right click on an open space, select "new drawer", rename it to Networks and copy the devices into it.

now the card is recognized but even if I selected IP, gateway, subnet mask and DNS I cannot surf the Web yet!

make sure you use a static IP address as amigas are not fond of DHCP
Title: Re: Amiga surfing the WEB
Post by: Daniele on February 18, 2008, 03:58:42 PM
I put in the PC and Amiga these values

PC (Server)

IP Address  192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway     192.168.0.1
Primary DNS 212.216.112.112

Amiga

IP Address  192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway     192.168.0.1
Primary DNS 212.216.112.112
Secondary DNS 212.216.172.62

But the Amiga Doesn't surf!

I tried to ping 192.168.0.2 but no one packet is transmitted!

Any idea?

Change the ip adress of the amiga to something high, like 192.168.0.30

Most routers only support dhcp up to 25.

then try again

Edit: just noticed you're not using a router (doh)

ignore this comment

To be honest, that would be you best move.
Use a router, easier and not reliant on the PC being switched on.

I do it this way.

Router, going to many PC`s.
Then from the router to Amiga 1200 OS3.9 using Genesis and AWeb
Genesis in the SYS:Internet
The OS3.9 CD gives you the option to put Internet software on your system when you first put OS3.9 on.

Having a router makes life a lot simpler, i have 4 pc's, a mac and my 1200 running on it with no problems.

In EasyNet's Network Domain Name box, make sure it is filled in:

I tryied the configuration suggest by AmigaKit but doesn't work.

Then I tried to connect to the router a second PC using this configuration and it works. My second pc connects to internet with these parameters

PC N.1:

IP Address            192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask         255.255.255.0
Gateway               192.168.1.1

DNS Primary         151.99.125.1    My ISP Alice
DNS Secondary       151.99.0.100    Telecom Italia

PC N.2:

IP Address            192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask         255.255.255.0
Gateway               192.168.1.1

DNS Primary         151.99.125.1
DNS Secondary       151.99.0.100

But when I put this configuration, the last one,
instead to connect my second pc to the router I connect the A1200T and put inside EasyNet these parameters I cannot surf the web and if I ping 192.168.1.3 no one packed is received.
I whant know also if Debig SANA should be Enabled or Disabled ,I tried with Enabled.

Any help to help me to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance

OK a few points I noticed from the Network Configuration Help file you emailed:

- the speed setting for the FastEthernet.device is not set - you must save - goto the Interfaces section of EasyNet

- Another bsdsocket.library is running - do you have Genesis or another TCP/IP stack partially installed?

- Run REXXMAST from the WBStartUp as previously advised.

How I can eliminate  bsdsocket.library?

I had this before installing Genesis anyway.

I simply deleted Genesis.

I don't know Genesis, but it sounds to me like you didn't delete all of it.  Unfortunately, since I don't know it, I can't help you get rid of it.

@Daniele
But now, are you onlie with Amiga?

if not..
on PC it's enough tell to pc to share internet connection and file in advance properties of "Lan connect" icon in net connections control pannel.

hmmm, one thing to try, is tell all the other machines on your network to use the internet gateway box (be it a router or a PC) as a DNS server - as they won't know about using your ISP as the DNS server. thats the gateway system's job to look after the packet routing between the Lan and Wan.

so for example.
gateway machine (router / PC / whatever)
internet connection
WAN IP supplied by DHCP from ISP
DNS IP suppied by DHCP from ISP
gateway IP supplied by DHCP from ISP
network connection
LAN IP 192.168.1.1 (and dishing out DHCP addesses from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254)
DNS IP 192.168.1.1 (as it is the DNS server from this network)
gateway 192.168.1.1 (as it is the gateway for this network)

2nd machine (PC working with DHCP) gets the addesses from the gateway machine
LAN IP 192.168.1.2
DNS IP 192.168.1.1
gateway 192.168.1.1

3rd machine (amiga wanting a static IP) set it to a high IP address in the IP range, so there is little chance of it being re-allocated by the gateway device
manually set the
LAN IP 192.168.1.100
DNS IP 192.16.1.1
gateway 192.168.1.1

to summerize, set all your LAN machines to have the DNS address set to the gateway machine's IP address.

--edit--
i've never known a router not DHCP its entire range (2-254), unless it was configured not to.
my router is set to DHCP from 2-99, amigas being static on 100 to 199, and static server addresses on 200-254

if pc become a router software with own ip 192.168.0.1, the lan is very easy to make.

PC (router)
IP: 192.168.0.1

Amiga (client)
IP:  192.168.0.2
netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS: 192.168.0.1

Make sure you have an accelerator as well to make it as painless as possible and if you have a tower think about getting a graphics card
