I just bought from a person in germany the 3.1 roms and workbench for 11.50 and although i am going to use os 3.9 in the end i was wondering whats is the difference from 3.0 roms and workbench to 3.1 roms and workbench.

well for starters 3.0 witll not allow WB3.1 onwards but if your clever enough and you play around on AmiNet, you can actually get it upto 3.9 spec. It's just alot of hard work though so 3.1 would make your life a whole lot easyer.

3.1 is mainly a bug fix release of 3.0. If you're running WB3.0 or 3.1 then upgrading is not really needed. WB3.5 and 3.9 require 3.1 roms though.
You can softkick a 3.1 rom image but you'd need to have the actual rom chip or Amiga Forever to make that legal.

I own an Amiga 500 with 1.3 Roms. Is it legal for me to download a copy of my own Roms from the internet or do I have to copy them from my half dead machine to make it legal?

I think you can safely download the roms in your case.

When asked. I always advocate upgrading to the 3.1 roms. The upgrade is relatively inexpensive and keeps all the classic users on the same page.
