Title: Need some help with an A4k ide ribbon cable
Post by: Amiduffer on February 15, 2008, 09:56:46 PM
Hi everyone. I'm putting my A4k together after installing the CGFX64/3D, 3.1 ROMS and a "new" CDdrive. The only trouble is fitting a HD and regular size CD drive in the same space. If I  screw the HD so that its flush with the top, then everything fits nicely, the CDdrive in particular, fits flush with the front panel. Trouble is, the regular IDE ribbon cable cannot reach both the HD and CD and I stripped the middle HD connector so that its loose now trying to bend it enough to connect the two.

Recomendations? Move the connector lower, now that its loose? Buy a cable that will fit?

 Two tips:

Buy a crimpable IDE 40 connector or buy a new IDE cable (avoid "cable selector" ones). 80 wires IDE cables don't work in Amiga.

OK, I'd never heard of crimpable connectors before, but I'll be on the lookout. Thanks.

I ran into the same problem. I just grabbed another standard 40 wire IDE cable from a PC and it fit. It's a little tight in the desktop case, but it does work.

If you don't have a shop close that has what you need, try:
http://www.redmondcable.com/
They have almost everything, and (usually) good prices
