Title: A500+
Post by: swift240 on February 10, 2008, 06:08:29 PM
Hi all,
Just been thinking of the old A500+ I used to have some years back for games for the good wife.
Now I have never given this any kind of thought before, BUT.....
Can you get for the A500+ things like extra memory Fastram ?
any kind of accelerator?
I do believe it should be possible to fit an HD and CD rom to it,would it?

I may well get another 500+ if I can get a memory card for Fastram for it, if not then I may just get an A600 for old games sake, I do know you can get a Fastram interface card for that I had one myself years ago for it.
This would be for games not any thing else really.
For a HD would be great for an A500+

TIA,

Mike.

Getting accelerator & HD for A500 is a big waste of time and money. I suggest you buy A1200 - AGA graphics, inbuilt IDE controller, 68020 CPU.

I totally disagree.  I like A500's better and would rather go the A500 route.

512k chip mem, no 060 or PPC accelerators, no AGA, no way of adding a decent amount of fast ram, no network interfaces, no clockports, no graphics cards, no PCI busboards, and TERRIBLE composite video output.

I can clearly see why you would like A500 more.

If you like the styling of the A500 case, then you could fit a 1200 or cd32 inside a 500 case and save much of the expense of upgrading it.

Doesn't apply to the 500+.

Hmm, an ECS computer with extra FAST RAM, an accelerator and a HD. You've just described an A3000.

An A600 would be a better investment. The size is great, it has everything the A500+ has AND it has an internal hard drive and PCMCIA for wireless ethernet/CF cards. It's only downside was no FAST RAM, but LordV has just made a 4Mbyte FASTRAM card for it.

You should look at McVenco's thread, FS lots of stuff, he has several a500 hard drives and also several A2000 which would be easier to upgrade.
