Hello all, so I won this wonderful beauty on ebay and at a good price it seems, however when asked them for shipping they told me they could only send the item via USP Priority mail for $120 dollars.linky (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEBTOX:IT&item=310019765506&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI) to me that seems a bit steep for this item, I mean there has to be way to ship via ship in America, right? :-(
-
unfortunately, no. AFAIK, surface mail from America to overseas has stopped, they only ship air.... Paid 70$ last month to have a VIC 20 shipped, that's why I know :)
-
Hmmm..... not so far away.... (i think)
I just received a package from the US weighing 17KG (37punds).
And it cost $130 in shipping...

Wow that sure sucks! Bloody Americans:-D , no offence to Americans of course, oh dear that is a shame, makes no sense though.

I found this though, just like in Japan we have SAL (Surface Airmail) the USPS now has ISAL (Intenational Surface Air Lift) too which is much cheaper. If anyone else will get caught out by the new rules ask for ISAL, this is gonna be the cheaper alternative.

HA! While I'm no fan, try shipping stuff from the UK! :-)
I wonder how much the reverse (from Japan to the US) would cost for the same items?
I got something sent from Japan via ship (surface), and it took 2+ months. Sure beats the 6-10day priority mail in price, but not time-wise.
Anyhow, the Commie {bleep} is heavy, so that'll cause you some pain in shipping.
-
it's mega cheaper if you allow for weeks instead of days. at least it was when i last shipped a heavy box internationally. years ago.
-
I think the point of the original poster is that USPS doesn't offer "weeks long" service to Japan anymore (they used to I guess), and he's right, I checked it. Perhaps UPS or Fedex does. Didn't check.

Yes, unfortunately no more long shipping times from America, but I managed to reduce the shipping to $70 now which is more manageable

Out of curiosity, ami_junki, how much would the reverse cost? (for the same package)
