Ended auctions are still available up to a few months, so a link is possible.
-
Is it really worth that much ??? :-o :-?
I guess if you're really really desperate to run OS4....
-
@Dragster
i guess you must have been living under a rock the last year, this is not shocking at all. its the best, its a collectible, it run aos4.0 and its not many of it on the open marked. so the price is right, if your one of them whiners that compare amiga hw with pc hw i think you should not have posted about this at all, because you cant compare does two. amiga is on a league of its own, its nothing out there like it.
but one question you can ask your self... why havent elbox or other companies made a clones of the bppc cards, there is a high demand out there for things like this now, when aos4.0 have been released for the classic...
and do people remember ack the one man company that did have a great idea to combine ppc, gfx, ram slot, network and soundcard into one card, for the userport of the a1200. to bad he was just a dreamer, that cant deliver anything....
so if there is anyone out there that want to make alot of money. this is your chance, this is what you should make, a new ppc card for the a1200/a4000.
-
How much would a run of say a dozen boards be? Surely not US$1200. At these prices small quantities make sense.

How much did it cost new?
UPDATE-
From what I was able to find out, the new cost was 1,359.04 USD. So someone has already paid more than the ebay price for that very board, at a time when the PPC was esentially useless, and no OS4 on the horizion. Isn't that even more unbelievable?
-
this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180211552669) is the card dragster is referring to. this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180209284052) sold for $500 a few days ago from the same seller. It doesn't have SCSI, but it'll run you OS4. this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250208520397) went for $600 with SCSI. You can have the 040 upgraded to 060 easily and voila ! you have the 'best' blizzard.
-
I payed USD 1,548.18 for my BPPC/BVision setup in 1998.
If new boards would make it to the shelfs, i am sure it would sell to something close to that price...

oh come off it. not today it isn't. it can still be used, and in some rare cases it can sitll be more efficient than a PC, but it's nowhere near something you can call value for money/cost effective. £1200 for outdated hardware? ridiculous.
-
Well, as i own 3 of them, i shall deposit at least 2 to my bank :-D
-
I've seen a lot of people call this desperate and even stupid. It's neither! It's called a hobby!
I've seen people spend far more money enjoying other hobbies.
-
@anyone
I will tell you why this purchase was NOT stupid:
Because this guy will now enjoy his Powerpul Classic/PPC Amiga starting today till the next few years.
as for you guys...........you will keep waiting for OS4 and years will pass while this dude enjoys OS4 everyday of the year.
TIME IS MONEY! and I am the same way.........I wish I would have invested in things long ago, instead of waiting till now...alot of Amiga years because I thought things were to expensive..........I wish I could go back to the early 1990's and buy everything Amiga that I wanted.
I would be wayyy more succesful today in my craft.
How much would you pay to get all those years of Amiga enjoyment back?

Good point. Just for fun, from a previous post, let's replace Amiga references with references to Harley Davidson motorcycles, which are old and slow compared with modern Asian machines:
oh come off it. not today it isn't. it (Harley's) can still be used, and in some rare cases it can sitll be more efficient than a bullet bike, but it's nowhere near something you can call value for money/cost effective. USD 20 000 for outdated hardware? ridiculous.
With logic like that, Harley Davidson is surely doomed.
-
I guess its relative, if you realy want one then a high price seems reasonable to you.
I personaly wouldnt pay as much but i would realy like one.
-

:-D I've spent more than 3500 grands on my RC hobby...
So why not spend some on amiga as well..... :-)

Comparing it with motorcycles is a good comparison. Its all about the feeling... If you like Harleys (Amiga) you ride it with a great grin on ya face. And if you like plastic rockets (PCs) you do that to with a grin on ya face...
Like i said, its all about the feeling....
-
I get tons more satisfying feelings from switching my amiga on in comparison to my PC.
-
I have a nice (Harley) Amiga board right here.
Amiga Cyberstorm PPC 233mhz 060/50mhz (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260209119055&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=016)

A Harley would be an original Amiga 1000, with hardware expensions which were available back then.
Ah well, everyone their hobby. :-)

Actually it's only outdated hardware once people actually stop using it.

I spent $3900 on 3 paintball guns, $400 to fit them all with loaders, $900 for air systems, etc. Seems like a waste when I look at it on paper, but I still have lots of fun doing it, and paintball equipment does nothing but depreciate. At least the amiga stuff will hold its value as long as there's an active communitiy clamoring for the latest that 1998 has to offer.
$1200 seems a lot for ancient hardware, but in an auction format, the buyers are the ones to blame for the $1200 price tag.
-
Precicely, if they are stupid enough to bid that much then let them, the seller must be laughting his head off and good for him too.
It's like Mercedes and BMW, I got no idea why they are bought for so much money as they are as common as heck, people seem to think they are being a unique majority. £25k for an A Class (a small car) is not unheard-of that's for sure.
I think some get too excited and are lead to belive that it's so special and rare, special maybe but rare it is not.
I'v also noticed that A1200 expansions fetch more then A4000 gear oddly.
-
Too much! They can be had for a third that amount for a patient eBay watcher. Heck, I paid about a third of that for my SuperCPU 128 and my butt felt raw afterwards
SuperCPU 128's have sold as high as $1,200 lately, but I was patient.

No, I haven't. And I still believe this is way overpriced eventhough it's the best BPPC outhere. I've never seen any BlizzardPPC or even CyberstormPPC go for this much and believe me, I browse ebay everyday. That's why I clearly said: "...the amount people is paying to run OS4".. not the cost of the board itself.
, if your one of them whiners that compare amiga hw with pc hw i think you should not have posted about this at all, because you cant compare does two. amiga is on a league of its own, its nothing out there like it.
Oh really? Who's comparing anything? Did I?? where???
I know that you're talking about, nobody's complaining "oh, I could have bought a 100 times faster PC for half that". So, stop bashing at me 'cause this is no comparison at all if you read carefully my original post. I just believe this is highly overpriced and I was surprised.

I'm puzzled how we have people who can produce something like the C-One, and yet nobody has cloned the SuperCPU 128.
Personally, I've never heard of it until you mentioned it in a thread the other day. However, I'd buy one at a reasonable price if they were being manufactured and I'm sure that most C128 hobbyists would do so too (along with that nice Graphics chip thingy).

hehe.. as I said:
" We'll see if the winning bidder really pays hehe."
it seems he did not pay, the board has been relisted!
Cheers

I spent about 450 euros for my BlizzardPPC+BVision combo in 97 or maybe 98 (don't remember exactly) and I got about 3/4 of that price when I sold them two years ago... but now, OMG have the prices gone up!!
Surely if DCE restarted production of their PowerUP line, they could sell enough to make a profit...

Hope he has better Luck this time. :-)

Strange in a way. He could have used the "second chance offer" to second place?
It still couldn't be far away from the winning bid...

I am a poor college student in my senior year with a job finally lined up. I've only been into Amiga's for a year or two now and have been patiently waiting to get some PPC hardware. These prices, however, are making me consider another hobby... Maybe I'll just have to settle with an 060 AGA machine when I finally get some money. Or maybe I can patiently wait for Coldfire or SharkPPC.
