Title: how do I make vector graphics?
Post by: rednova on February 03, 2008, 02:18:31 PM
Dear Amigans:

I want to make vector graphics (like in the game another world)for my amiga. What software do I need for this?
Is there any tutorials on how to make them?
Thank you!!!

XTrace is a program that support vector graphics but i don't know if it will be enough to create graphics like in another world. I think they used the motion-capture technique to create realistic movements.
Another option is to use a conventional painting-animation program like deluxe paint and then use a bitmap to vector converter. You will find one or two in Aminet.

Another World was rotoscoped, not vector.

Just search Aminet for structured drawing packages.. there used to be loads of them.

I once wrote a simple polygon rendering engine, to test an idea I had for a game... No curves as the bezer maths was too boring to figure out... All the test models I made were build from triangles. One innovation I did, was to include a skeleton structure which allowed each vertex to be related to  any other... got bored with though... 3D gfx were getting popular by then.

No idea what Another World is, but ProVector is an excellent 2D vector drawing program.

Hey, i just remembered of FantaVision! I believe that it should be a good choice for what you want to do. It's a very old program, though and it may not run at all on a newer Amiga.

Art Expression, ProVector, and DrawStudio are the ones that come to mind immediately...

Dear Friends:

Thank you for all your answers. Let me rephrase my question. I was wrong...it is not vector graphics I want to make...What I want to make, is animation like in the game 'another world'. It is beautiful animation and it takes little space on disk. Can you help me again?
Thank you!!!

THen you need video people perfroming actions, then draw over them... please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotoscope

This is where an Amiga with a light pen can be an extremely useful tool.

ProVector 2.1 came on Amiga Format coverdisk 58b (http://www.guildserver.co.uk/AMR/amiga_format_coverdisks/af058_1994_04_d2.zip).

Can't tell you much about it, though.

Actually neither of your posts is entirely accurate on the subject. Another World was partially rotoscoped as is explained on the authors website (http://www.anotherworld.fr/anotherworld_uk/another_world.htm). However that has nothing to do with the method of animation which was entirely vector based and you can do it without needing something to draw over the top of like in traditional rotoscoping for animation.
