Title: OS4 and PowerFlyer Gold
Post by: Ancalimon on February 02, 2008, 10:35:36 AM
A friend installed OS4 on his 603e-240 , BVision and Power Flyer
He has a Power Flyer Gold. Does he need to install the driver for it? (he has a harddisk as primary and cdrom as slave connected to first port) If he does should he set a ENV variable to make it compatible with OS4. He has bough the new MK3 but it hasn't arrived yet.

Btw he says moving windows with contents is very slow. Shouldn't 603e 240 be faster at doing this than a 060?

I will go to him to see it in action in a few hours and take my OS4 box but my 4000T is at repairs :)

From what one can gleam here, the power flyer is not supported while the BVision is.

So it would seem the loading from disk should be slow (internal ide) and moving windows should be fast (bvision)

The powerflyergold is the FastATAIII if I'm not mistaken.
There are OS4 drivers available for it now so he should use these.

As for the second point, I had the same problem using a 160 BPPC and Voodoo5500 in a Mediator.

Had to switch off some of the options when it comes to moving windows to speed it up.

AFAIK Elbox have released new drivers that work better on OS4 than the older ones. He should email them.

powerflyer gold = FastATA MK 1 w allegrocdfs

you have to enable base page access on startup and the 68k driver works ok if somewhat slower than it does in 3.x due to some emulated functions. Example from my setup, using elbox's own drivespeed, 6.8mb on 3.x, 5.4mb on os4, still a big improvement over the plain 1.8mb without the driver not to mention that it enables the second ide channel and any extra devices you may have installed there.

Elbox's new drivers are for mk3 users and I don't think they give it to non registered mk3 users, eventhough I suspect they would work fine with mk1 and mk2 just as well as the hardware differences are minimal at best....
