simple question. can you network an amiga to pc and not just download files from the cdrom drive but use an amiga disk in the pc drive and play a game on the amiga?
-
you can try ftp filesystem (aminet) but seek in file isnt supported, so it will work just for some games
-
you mean with WHDLoad? maybe.. try smbfs.
IIRC, many say you need to shutdown TCP for it to work, but I had not seen any problems with AmiTCP+Whdload.
BTW, I successfully ran 'Rogger Rabbit' from PC HDD on A500 networked with PC2Amiga. but it was sloooow, and its probably 'system friendly' game.

I have just tested it and it works great with smbfs!
of course its a bit slower than HDD.
I used the PRELOAD option, just in case.
The games that work: SuperCars 2 (JST), Superfrog (WhdLoad), Arkanoid2 (WhdLoad)
there are some minor problems, I couldn't get icon on workbench for smbfs drive (I think there is an option for this) and the files cant have executable flag set.

Windows has no support for Rock Ridge or its Amiga extensions, which is why you'll be missing attributes, comments, and most likely case-correctness, if the disc does not also use Joliet. (CIFS/SMB lacks extensions for the extra attributes as well.)
Amiga OS needs ATA over Ethernet (or iSCSI, but AoE is a lot easier to implement, since you don't need an IP stack).

What do you mean (by the "needs" part), Trev?
