Hi A-users,
I know this has been asked before but im after a set of keys that will fit in the front beizel lock but unsure what exactly to look for. Preferbly official ones but if not then any that will fit nicely. I was thinking about Maplins but got no idea what to ask for as im not sure of the dimentions and the shape.
Any help would be much apriciated. :-)

Buy the entire lock + keys set.
The size of any lock is the same. But the "secret" is not.
Substitute the whole damm thing.

Bring the original lock with you when you buy another one!

Just thought of that!
I will bring the whole beizel so then it could be sorted on the spot. Thanks! :-)

No need to take out the whole bezel. Just take out the original lock to compare to a new one. What to look: diameter and the "frontal" height (the part who protrude from the bezel).
-
@ rkauer, I don't have the tools here (or can't find them) but to be honest that would be best as it can be sorted there if I can prompt them to. :-)

I return, with a new lock! There was no exact one but the diameter is correct, it just sticks out a small tad but is neat enough. Though I can't work out were the wires should go and were the 3 hole plug goes (I presume it's behind the LED power plugs so thats what I used at the time). I tried to hold the wires on by my finger and switching the machine on and no luck. It always turns on. Some sort of diagram would be great here. :-?

@ tokyoracer
The machine is supposed to always turn on. They keylock just disables the mouse and keyboard so it can't be used.
-
Oops, will give that a go then! Sorry.
[EDIT] Well at the moment my 4000 isn't booting up at all, I fear it maybe a faulty motherboard. Things on the Amiga front for me hasn't been going well or cheaply to say the least.
-
Just to say, the lock is working fine. Thanks for the help guys. :-)
-
Does any wires need to be connected to the key? I mean would this prevent it from working?
Thanks, ThePieman

The key is connected to two wires on the motherboard, intended for blocking the keyboard/mouse use.

Did anyone ever actually use this feature? I remember that most Peecees were keyed alike, so everyone had the key, and that the keylock was supposed to turn off the keyboard (power) but on some peecees it was a BIOS function that didn't work on powerup. So, you could PRES
FOR SETUP... and disable the keylock!
-
I am surprised that cheap key swiches have unique keys, could someone who has several A4000's check if any key fits any lock please.
-
As a former system builder, I happen to have about a dozen sets lying around (and an A4000), so...
The key sets all have a number marked on them, ranging from "101" to "1102". NOT ONE single key fits the A4000 I have.
Either the diameter isn't right, the wall is too thick to allow it to engage, or the "pin" on the barrel (looks like the front sight on a rifle) doesn't allow it to turn the lock.
So, yes, they are keyed differently.
And the reason I had so many of them? We NEVER used 'em - it was too simple to just open up the computer case and disconnect the "KEYLOCK" connector, and the cases we used had easily defeated lock mechanisms. We called them "Delayed-Theft Devices", instead of "Anti-".

@banzai
Not the answer I was hoping for but Thank you for trying.
I had hoped that if an original amiga key could open any A4000, then that key could be duplicated and we could all have keys if we wanted them, I would also hope that a new key would cost less than a new switch with 2 keys, but with modern economics, that cannot be taken for granted!.
