Post by: theformula on January 30, 2008, 12:22:31 PM
Hi I was wondering if there are any cd32 emulators for the amiga 1200 as I have loads of cds and would love to play or intall them on my amiga. I have used the IDEFIX one but its time limited.

I use a great program called CD-Boot by Stefan Ossowski 8-) His details are listed right at the bottom of this (http://faqs.org/faqs/amiga/CD32-FAQ/part2/) page.

Basically, it puts an additional Startup-Sequence into your Workbench telling your A1200 or A4000 to look for a bootable CD as it starts. If one is found you will given the option of booting into the CD32 disc to play the game, or to continue into Workbench :pint:

IDEfix also had a CD32 emulator in the package IIRC. If you don't care about the CD audio tracks in the games which have them, then you can use WHDLoad to install them to hard disk and then they will run from Workbench with no CD32 emulator (or CD) required.

thanks for the replys guys.

@ A4000_Mad
That cd boot program sounds great I will test it out. Would this work with backed up cds?

@ motorollin
I was wondering if the sound effects would still work if i installed them with whdload? Also could you explain whdload to me as i have tried to use it before and I failed.

The cd boot one wont work unless u have an emulator that copies the akiro chip,  a lot of games use this for reading the cd and chunky-to-plannar

CD32 emulators will work with backups and CD32 disc images downloaded from the wonderweb and burned correctly to CD.

Sound effects still work in WHDLoad-installed CD32 games, as does non-CD audio music (IOW, music which is played from a sound file not from an audio track like a normal music disc). CD32 games which have a data track for the game and then music tracks for the audio will not play the audio when WHDLoad-installed as WHDLoad can't copy the audio tracks. But sound effects are not played from CD-audio tracks, so they will still work.

In order to use WHDLoad, visit this site:

http://www.whdload.de/

Download and install WHDLoad_Usr.lha (linked from that page directly). Then go to the Installs page (linked from the top) and download the installer for the game you want. Make sure that the installer you download is for the CD32 version. The unpack the installer and run it. It will ask at some point for the CD, and will install the game files to your hard drive so you can run it from there without the CD. You no longer need the installer you used to install it, just the installed game itself.
