i'm trying to work out if these are the full games all ready sorted for quick use? if so do you just drag and drop them onto your amiga hard disk? i like that idea i don't want to have to use floppy disks.
-
There are packs where they are the full game and you usually have to unzpip them and then they work.
(assuming you have whdload and the keyfile)
They are illigal unless you own the game
-
i assume the key file is a registration number?
-
You don't need a keyfile for WHDLoad, there will just be a delay each time you run a game.
The downloads links on the Amiga Forever (http://www.amigaforever.com/games/) site has links to free legal downloads, including WHDLoad packs.
-
Everyone should register whdload. It is the best thing that happened to Amiga.
-
many WHDLOAD slaves will not work with unregistered WDHLOAD installs....
£15 is the price. It is the best Amiga purchase that I have made in 10 years!

i've just sent my money and am waiting the keyfile which can take a few days... i'll have to get my amiga up and going. :-)
-
"requirements: a minimum of 1.0 MB RAM (sometimes more, it depends on the installed program)"
is that fastram? just wonder how well it works on a stock a1200?
-
poorly, you need fast ram.
-
It really does depend on what game you play. Extra Ram will allow you to use the preload option which makes the loading of games quicker
-
it's all setup and installed and i've managed to enjoy some games. but alot of them keep nagging about silly version named kickstart roms i haven't put in my devs/ kickstarts because none of the rom images i have seem to work.
any idea what versions they are supposed to be. and where to get them? i am legal to use them all.
job done.

boy am i sodded off trying to get the kickstarts to work. can someone zip up a working dev:kickstarts drawer and mail me? or help in some other way.
i own an a500+ (and have the cheapy version of amiga forever with 1.3 rom.) a600 and upgraded a1200. so i have 1.3, 2, 3 and 3.1 roms. i am entitled to use those roms. (and no i'm not going to use transrom etc etc. life is too short.)

Nice attitude. Then I guess life is too short to waste on games as well.
But seriously, don't expect people to just mail you Amiga ROMs out of the blue. If you really have those ROMs, just fix it yourself. Read the WHDLoad documentation, it says exactly what these ROM files must be called, and what else you'll need. :rtfm:
-
cool expected attitude 1 out of the way! ;-)
now for attitude 2... "no you not entitled to use any rom unless it came from the amiga you own." yadda yadda...
-
I'm just trying to tell you that WHDLoad is really great, and that it's worth the effort. :-)
-
i am doing all i am told. i am using os 3.9. and i'm not the only one who's had a problem.
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.amiga.programmer/msg/a66fa93f9354ef0a
i have tried a few rom images. i am assuming even if i go to the trouble of using transrom there is still a bug somewhere. when i do what it asks me to in the docs. it says its not the right image.
-
Have you downloaded skick (http://www.aminet.net/util/boot/skick346.lha) and placed the RTB files in Devs:Kickstarts as per the manual?
Also seems you need the file rom.key since you're using Cloanto's 1.3 kickstart.

WHDLoad is GREAT, I've just registered for my own keyfile. I didn't find the required ROMs in the main documentation but I did when reading some slave files readmes.
The main one listed is
"An A500 kickstart image (kick34005.A500). The kickstart image must be located in the directory "Devs:Kickstarts" and must be named "kick34005.A500". The image can be extracted from an A500 with tools like "GrabKick" or similar
tools, which can be found on Aminet. In addition the file "kick34005.A500.RTB" must be installed in the same directory as the kickstart image. This file can be found in the archive "util/boot/skick343.lha" on Aminet."
There is another one listed by some games but don't know why it'd be needed on an actual A1200 with 3.1 ROMS
"kick40068.A1200"
"kick40068.A1200.RTB"

There's a list of the kickstarts you need under the "Requirements" heading in the docs.
-
yeah this is the problem i've done all that. (apart from transrom.) i wonder if someone can tell me the exact file size of the roms? (i got the 1.3 rom elsewhere. actually 2 different places. but it still won't work.) is everyone else using os 3.1?
-
Kickstart 1.3 is 262.144 bytes. Kickstart 3.1 is 524.288 bytes.
-
"error during resload_loadkick, invalid kickstart image." i tried again with the af 1.3 rom. renamed it and copied the key also. do i need to rename the key?
-
You need to exactly name the rom image like it's said in the docs and also it must be an unencrypted image (AF roms are encrypted). It has to be exactly 262.144 bytes for 1.3 or 524.288 for 3.1.
If you use Google wisely you will find the right image files.
-
Are you still having issues getting the correct kickstart images for whdload?
If so, just let me know and I'll send you a PM with detailed instructions on how to name them etc.
