Hi, im new on this site, and also into amiga ! I got a 1200 some weeks ago.. Now i want to upgrade it, but i don't know what to do ! i've been reading a little in this forum, and many of you are talking about zorro and blizzard cards ! what do i need ?
-
I would buy an 68030 /050 - 64mb accel ,or better yet an 68040
a 2,5 inch hard disc ,a vga scan doubler ofr lcd output and a pmcia to compact flash adapter for files transfers.
and enjoy WHDLoad my friend.
if you dont go the scan doubler way,at least go RGB to Scart!

Instead of a 2.5hd why not an IDE Compact Flash Adapter and a Wireless 16-bit PCMCIA card for file transfer?
About the accelerators, what's the "real world" difference between a 030 50mhz and a 040 40mhz?
-
First of all; what do you want to do with your Amiga?
-
i have hdd and cd-rov drives. and it works great.. and a 10mbit pmcia netcard for filetransfer.. only need some more acceleration.. what is the best solution ?
-
For an A1200 in a desktop case the best solution would be a 030 card or a 060 card. Avoid 040 cards.
-
flashlab: nothing special ! it's just funning to spend some time with ! but i hate the monitor i have, i want to connect my lcd screen to it !
-
Why avoid 040's?? my apollo 040 has been outstanding for me with very little compatibility problems and ran way better than a gvp 030 @50mhz that i had.
-
@DoogUK
Because 040 based accelerator cards normally produces a lot more heat than a 030 or 060 based card does.
-
Oh i agree totaly, i changed the 5v fan on my apollo for a 12v low profile heatsink and fan....no probs there.
-
040's can run really hot in the 1200 case.
For connecting the 1200 to an LCD monitor you would need a scandoubler; maybe a better option would be a monitor that also accepts composite input. That would be easier to get (scandoublers are rare and expensive).

I have a 030 in my machine and its great. Robust (if you get a Phase5 made one) and is a good all-rounder for general stuff. More compatible too!
-
I had a M-Tec 1230, with a 68030 (duh) running at 28mhz, fitted with an FPU and 8mb ram.
Biggest issue was the trapcover, I never could close it :P
Board ran fine though, never had any issues with it.

Dear Friend:
I also have an a1200. I have upgraded to an 030/50mhz + fpu + 18mb ram. Also a 2gig hd. Everything works great!!!
My favorite programs are: amospro (you can create your own amiga games!!!), deluxe paint iv (great for drawing)and aladdin 4d (3d rendering and animation-for amiga).
Amospro you can get it for free:
http://amos.condor.serverpro3.com/
That is the amos factory website...there you can ask about getting amospro (free) and you can join in...to start learning how to code in amos/how to create your own amiga games.
Amospro is really easy to learn and then you can make your own amiga games!!!
cheers!!!
