Title: Wanted: Completely dead A1000 or just A1000 case.
Post by: Nlandas on January 18, 2008, 09:16:30 PM
I working on a retro-computing project and I'd like to find a complete Amiga 1000 case without any insides or a completely unfixable dead A1000. I don't want to remove even a fixable one from the world.

I basically want to use the case to house the project I'm building. I'm willing to pay postage. Hopefully, someone from this continent will have one or know someone that has something that fits the bill.

Thanks,
-Nyle

I bet someone with a broken motherboard or in need of lots of parts would like the insides only. Maybe you could find someone like that and split an A1000 somewhere.

I'd be happy to give the parts out to the community. I wouldn't throw anything away that could be useful to someone with an A1000. I don't want to take apart a working unit though.

:-o What kill a functioning Amiga? Even an older one like the A1000. That's simply inconceivable.  ;-)

I'd really rather get a dead one but I guess I could get a working one and part it out. I see a lot of them in the clssified for FREE or $50.

I can't believe no one has a dead one to ship me though?  :-?

I have three of them and they all still work! They are/were amazing computers. Just buy a cheap one for your project and keep the parts. That way you can tell yourself that you could always restore it and you aren't destroying a good one.

Should someone come along and want the internal parts at a later date you can always sell them. It's not like we are talking about a rare Commodore edition 4000T where they only made 200 of them.

BTW what are you building? Will it require modifying the case? Is a regular PC motherboard going inside?

I also have three, but all work. Maybe there just many dead A1000 around?
I see an occasional A1000 show up on Craig's List for free though - Check that for your area.

Hell, I'd like one just for the autographs on the underside of the case.

Slightly offtopic, but does anyone have a good picture of that?

That one is a tad small  :-D

I'm making the ultimate retro-gaming system. It's going to emulate Atari 2600, C64, MAME and of course Amiga. I'll also be throwing the SageTV client on it so I can use it to play back all of our TV/movie/MP3s over our LAN. I plan on using it with a projector so we can play outside on a big screen at night. It should be fun. All I'm missing is the A1000 case.

The motherboard isn't a regular PC motherboard - well it's a PC motherboard but it's from a Shuttle XPC so it's small form factor and the video and network cards I have a low profile. It should fit well in the A1000 case. I expect there will be some modding of the case, so putting it back together probably won't happen.

However, I could sell the MB and other parts for those who need repair parts for their A1000s. There must be thousands that have died though.

If anyone sees one being thrown out, I will pay post to NY, USA. You can even keep the insides and just send the case so it's lighter for shipping.  :-D

If you have mad skills, you can always build the case from scratch

Interesting project though, keep us informed if you get one and start modding

I can let you have the A1000 case from this as I was thinking of mounting the A1000 MB within a PC:
