But does it mean it'll be available eventually?

Very cool:)

Wow.
Details?
Is this official...? :-?

I guess that's some real egg of BBRV's face!!
How many people have Efika's that are watching MAC users having more of a chance of getting MorphOS??
-
Great so if this is real old Mac Mini's will soon be the price of a Cyberstorm PPC card.
Would be even beter if it ran on the Mac G4 Digital Audio I sold a while back. There are soooo many of those out there.
-
Naah, millions of PPC Mac minis out there only a couple thousand working Phase 5 PPC cards out there at best. The more time passes, the more used PPC Mac Minis will go for sale second hand.
-

Efika users dont have to worry about it.
-
rotflmao :D

Ah the insanity of being an Amiga enthusiast. You gotta love it.
It'll probably run on a PS3 before Efika, Amiga One, or "Insert Future Hardware Here" etc.

-
Actually take that back, I should try and boot OS4 off my Scientific Atlanta 4300 cable box.
What other mass produced PPC G4 based Mac Mini like products are there?
hmmm...
-
this is superb news. can we assume that macmini port of morphos 2 will be an official port and supported by morphos developers ?
-
Heh...
I'm still hoping to see MOS for my EFIKA.
'Of course I bought it for MOS'
I thought the $99 price tag was meant as a 'big push' to get some potential MOS customers. I did not know that the connection between MOS and Genesi was not very strong.
I would probably use a Mac mini to run Mac OS. I have had an opportunity to use a Mac for a little while and really enjoyed it.
Would I try to play with OS4, or MOS on my Mac?
Yes, I would probably give 'em both a go.
Good luck to anyone who tries to think outside the 'Window'.
my $0.02

The port is real and "official".
However, it is unlikely that any mac version would make it to the first MOS 2.0 batch: Pegasos I, Pegasos II and Efika come first.
This Mac port is not ready either, so hold your horses. Don't go out spend your last savings on Mac Mini assuming you can grab MorphOS for it tomorrow. These things take time. Any potential release can only happen once the port is finished.
But dang, it looks quite sexy, huh? :-)
-
Wow, All kinds of stuff going on. At this point I would be happy running MorphOS 2.0 or OS4 on a Mac Mini.
Either one would be cool.

Having been a Pegasos I owner in the past running MOS 1.4 and now reading the problems OS4 users are having...
I'd take MOS over OS4. Of course this is coming from someone who prefers his C128 over both :-D
-
@redrumloa,
Yea, I'm starting to wonder if OS4 for classic was such a good idea? I mean hey, Its nice to have it for folks that have classic PPC Harware but it seems to be causing problems.
I'm quite happy with OS 3.9 on my 060 A1200 for the 68k audio apps that I use it for.
I'd rather get something more modern if I was going to run "new" amiga apps.
-

MorphOS 1.4 was incredible! It ran everything I threw at it that did not bang the hardware. I saw MOS becoming a dead end and sold my Pegasos, not having room for every computer I'd like to own. If the mythical MOS 2.0 really becomes available, i may have to breakdown and get it with supported hardware.
-
Almost a good use for a Mac :-D
-
hmmmm that would be groovy!
-
I have not been able to load the quicktime video to view it. Has anyone else had the same problem, or has it been taken down due to some outside pressure being applied against the MOS developers? :getmad:
-
The encoding is a bit wonky, and seems to fail for some players when streaming. You should try downloading it first and then opening the file locally.
If that doesn't work, VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) or mplayer will play it at least.
-
Stop teasing us! Where is the release of MOS 2.0? :D
-
This reminds me of a show report I read many years ago. I'm sure it mentioned that Genesi were demoing MorphOS on a PowerBook.
Also, whats all this talk of Mac Minis and the rocketing of their price in relation to MorphOS and OS4? There are loads of G4 Macs out there, other than the Mini, iBook, PowerBook, iMac, eMac, PowerMac.
I wonder if/when someone will get one of these OS's running on a Dual 2.7GHz PowerMac G5 :-) Its just a shame these things weren't happening when these machines were still new.
-
Ugh, just put it on the market and stop teasing people :pissed:
-
That is great news! While MOS on my G3 flies already a 2nd powerful computer is always welcome. Even my gf could become a MOS user that way (she's an Apple user).

I think you got the wrong picture here, as BBRV seems to like the idea...
-
This news are really cool, more exciting than os4 for mac mini, at least for me, lets wait with some patience.
-
From old threads at MorphZone i got the impression that the MOS-Team (or parts of it) are against supporting a dead platform (PPC Mac). And now - surprise. Dont know what to think about it...

No shame at all - I have one of these :-)
This would give me reason to turn it on again :-P
-
:-o If they release that I'll drop OS4 like a bad habit!!
-
IMHO next big step for the community would be...
MorphOS for SAM440 support....
Nothing is like competition....
It would increase sales of SAM440 while users wait for legal issues with OS4 to be resolved...
And if AInc wins case eventualy, they would make sure that SAM440 is not produced in vain...
And if Hype wins, we could have dual boot on machine.... fantastic....
-
Piru wrote:

It does indeed.
However, with that background music the word 'sexy' immediately vanishes from my thoughts

Well if this is true we are talking about another vaporware in the amiga world... is nice to see this video but only a video.
-
This is great news!
I'd love to try MorphOS on my Mac Mini! Hurry, code faster! :-)

Great !
(Hoping something REAL and TANGIBLE can soon come from this... can our strange Amiga "Limbo" be defeated this time ?)
-

Why whould they do this. I would think that they would have nothing to do with releasing os4 for SAM440 as Acube have jumped into bed with hyperion. Would think that Ainc would not want to do them any favours.
The only way u will see OS4 on sam440 is if Hyperion win the case
-
@beakster2
Could you in any way confirm or provide any links concernig that Mos demoing on a PowerBook? I'd be very grateful.
Maybe you can recall where did you read it? :-)
-
@Sir_Lucas
There has been no demo of MorphOS on PowerBook.
-
@Piru
Ok, thx for clearing that up :-)
-
Hmm, if on MacMini, any chance for my eMac?
-

MOS 2.0 interface looks fancier than 1.4.5..at least that system info box looked nicer..nice font also. Are they going to release more screenshots of 2.0 ?
Did they also give a ETA on when 2.0 is going to come out? Ie. "2008 for sure dewds". ?

TheMagicM wrote:

If this is true, and if MOS2.0 is released on any model of PPC Mac before the legal troubles for OS4 are cleared up and new hardware for OS4 is released, sales of any new OS4 hardware and software are going to be severely hurt because of the competition by MOS2.0 on semi-cheap used PPC Mac hardware.
-
@TheMagicM
There are couple of MOS 2.0 videos here:

Piru,
Will it work only on the Mac Mini or will other Apple G4-class machines be able to use it?
-
I really wish I can load this in my iBook G4 or G3!
it would be swell to transform the G3 into a MorphOS system!
-

I've never seen that before. Wow..now that is cool.
MOS does the 3D cube also? now that is SLICK!!! neat desktop trick. I'll download the rest of them..
-

I have a 1gHz G4 PowerBook with a display problem that I was not going to fix, but if either AOS4, or (preferably) MOS2.0 ever become available that will run on my broken PowerBook, I will be sending mine off to get fixed faster than you can say Amiga Inc. S#(ks A$$!
I would love to run MorphOS 2.x on my PowerBook.
Piru says it doesn't mean we are going to get it any time soon, but at least now, it looks like we will get it eventually, or in Amiga speak, just two more weeks. :-D
-
That is very awesome news, too bad I bought an intel
MacMini. Guess there won't be any Rosetta like tranlator
so I will be stuck trying to find a PPC machine if this
version gets released. Still, 2 MacMinis stacked is still
a fraction of the size of a normal computer. ;)
-
It is too early to specify which models would be supported eventually, but it's quite safe to rule out models based on other than radeon graphics cards (at least nvidia is out of the question).
-
Well there was also the eMac, which originally was sold to education only, but had a brief run on the home market
I have one of these for sale lying resident under my desk
If the port would go ahead it would make a nice MorphOS machine and an alternative to the MacMini..
If anyone would like to buy it for Amiga or non-Amiga purposes then drop me a PM since it is currently just taking up space
Edit: For info on the Mac click here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nadrummer/Site)
-
Edit: Dunno what happened there but I've been accidentally using IE so that might explain it..

Late reply,
I could not get the file to open with Quicktime from their site or from my hard drive, but finally was able to view it with Windows Media Player.
-
Is there any need of betatesting?
If so, let me know if you need more betatesters. I have a 1.5GHz Mac mini.
-
Hello, dear friend! How anyone would download MorphOS for macppc, when it will be released? Current registration system for ftp access need serial ID.
Of course could provide betatesting. I have powerbook, one of the last models.

Well I did say this back in Januray, but damm how wrong was I.
Lets see if this works.
You will never see OS4 on the mac mini :-D
-
There is already os4 on the mac mini, only on certain models sadly.
-
Not by any sense of the word is there a USEABLE version of OS4 on the mac mini. Its missing quite a lot of things like networking for instance
