I would like to order some products from SoftwareHut (they told me that they have some in stock), but I want to know if they are ok. Any info would be appreciated.
-
I have ordered a couple things from SoftwareHut and have been pleased with the service. Joe has answered my questions in a timely fashion. I am prolly going to be ordering something else from him.
-
If they said they have it in stock, you are probably ok. AFAIK they don't keep too much stock on hand any more, so it is good to check before hand.
From your location, wouldn't you be better off buying from AmigaKit?
-
My first option is AmigaKit (I'm very satisfied with Matthew), but if they don't have something that I want, I must look somewhere else. That's why I'm asking. Thanks in advance.
-
When I bought an A1200 with a bad floppy drive in it (the old Commodore one), I called on SoftwareHut and they helped me right away. They gave me great service and I really think for a service organization they are pretty cool.
-
I have ordered from them in the past and I like them.
-
I've never had a problem ordering from them, but as previously stated, it would be a good idea to contact them first to confirm items are in stock. Their web site is very outdated for what they actually have in inventory.
-
I've placed several orders with Software Hut and never had a problem. My last order was for a Cybervision 64-3D Zorro graphics card and everything arrived quickly, well packaged and in full working order.
I've just given up on Amigakit. I ordered from them once with no problem, but every time I ask a question in the forums I get ignored. Finally, I sent them an email asking for some product advice to make an order and I've been ignored for a week and a half. Balls to them, I've ordered some hardware through Vesalia instead (and pre-ordered some too) as they reply quickly and politely to every question I've asked.
I think they've just become my #1 source for Amiga and C64/128 hardware and software.
-
SoftHut is alright... Joe seems like a nice guy, sometimes you may not get email response, but (in my experience) they're honest.

@Darrin
Sorry to hear that you think we are ignoring you in the forums- this is definately *not* the case.
We cannot spot every question that you raise in the forum- if you have a specific query, please pmail - you will be given a reply.

I asked Amigakit something yesterday (Sunday!) and I had their reply short after. Good service :-)

Not for long ;-)

Well I'm glad to know that I'm just paranoid then (should I be glad about that?). :-)
The last question I had was sent via your "contact us" on your website almost 2 weeks ago. It was regarding a hardware solution for writing back C64 data to 5.25" disks from *.d64 files. I didn't know whether you had a solution to write from a PC or Amiga to either a PC 5.25" FDD using something like a Catweasel or to an actual CBM 1571 drive using a custom cable. In the end, I ordered a couple of cables from Versalia and pre-ordered the MMC Replay cartridge.
I can't remember what I asked about in the forums. Probably related to expanding my big-box Amigas.
Cheers for the reply.

Does that mean you're going back into business? ;-)
-
I cannot recall seeing that email (we were on Christmas/New Year Holidays a fortnight ago though)- I will search through our emails.

Like I said, it was done via your website and you had to type your question into a box and hit "continue". I'm guessing you came back to work with a hangover and just deleted the backlog in order to sleep it off.
Here's where I went:

I hope it's not a problem with your site. You may be missing a lot more queries.

You didn't make that trip to the West Coast to collect all of the C64 stuff, did you?
-
@redrumloa
Make it soon, Jim! I'm getting married this summer, so I've got to start burning the cash while I still have it. ;-)

I've dealt with Software Hut for many years and never had any problems. They're only about 30 minutes drive from where I live. I've personally talked to them at their office and was allowed to roam around freely in their storeroom to see if there's anything I wanted. How many places that you know of will allow that to happen ?

That would be dangerous for me. I could spend a hell of a lot of cash that way. :-D

I have ordered from Software Hut many, many, many times and will do so as long as they are in business. All orders and transactions were Perfect..
So to answer your question they are MORE than OK..
You should have not problems.
Take care

I`ve had always good service from SoftwareHut, good guys there and very helpful. Even when I moved back to the UK I used them for purchasing Amiga stuff.

I remember secretly buying a hard drive and accelerator for my A1200 and installing them while my (then) wife was out of the house so that she'd never know. I ended up getting my ass chewed when my wife overheard me on the telephone telling a friend to do the same thing. Owch! I’ll never understand women and how they insist on wasting spare cash on things like furniture and food rather than buying essentials like more RAM and faster processors. :-)

I have ordered a lot of things from SoftHut and they have always given me great service and answered my questions promptly. I definitely recommend them.

Or Vesalia? They are in Europe too.
I have ordered Amiga stuff from both shops (Amigakit and vesalia) and thus, i'm in position to compare them. They are just about the same in most aspects.
The famous great/fantastic/woohoo and fast costumer support of Amigakit (which is said to be the biggest advantage of this shop) is something which i simply didn't experience. Their replies to my questions were not that fast and sometimes i had to make the same question twice to get them answered.
As for the speed of parcel delivery, they are about the same as fast. At least in my case.

I've ordered from them and had no problems at all. The shipping was fast too.

You had right guys! I received the package a couple of weeks ago in brand-new condition, excellent package, and really very fast communication. I surely buy again from Joe. 8-)

Hi,
@Phantom
I have been ordering from Software Hut since the Amiga
first came out. Never had a problem with them and always
received great working stuff. Just ordered a ethernet card
from them last week, it arrived in two days. I am still
trying to figure out how to get it working, since I bought
this as a refurb product it came with no software or
instructions, I am still researching the Amiga channels for
info on it. I finally got the Amiga to recognize it by
downloading some software from Aminet, now I think it is
my network that I have to contend with. Anyhow I am still
happy with the product, half the fun of the Amiga today is
trying to get it to work, since no new products have come
out for it in last couple of years.
Any how Software Hut has always been fast and efficient, I
probably could call and they would have an answer, but I
am just to stubborn to do it, and besides getting it to
work on your own is half the fun. If you order something
new, then guess what follow the instructions and it
usually works. Ahem how many Amiga people actually follow
the INSTRUCTIONS? If you RTFM then things go easier.

I have been dealing with Software Hut for ages, something on the order of 20 years! In all that time I had one problem, that fixed so fast (with an upgrade to boot!) I couldn't believe it.
I have even visited the store(s) several times. It's only an hour and a half drive from here :-)
They are good people.

I like to order from Software Hut, although like everyone else, things are getting mighty hard to come by. I wish he would update his web page. I don't think anything much has been done to it in about a year.
I just Email him with my requests, and he usually gets back to me within a couple of hours. Supporting the last remaining Amiga vendors is critical.
BTW, I have heard nothing but good things about Amigakit, too! I am sure they are great people.
