I managed to pick up a A3000 yesterday (for a measily $50AUS!), and it has a strange cable coming out of the side of the keyboard. It is a ribbon cable, with what looks like a 50 pin header on it. I popped the back cover off and the ribbon is spread all over the the pcb, connected to little resistors. Also, on the top of the keyboard is a GVP sticker over the function keys (I presume for a Genlock).
Any ideas?
(BTW, the motherboard is clean as a whistle inside. No battery leaks whatsoever!)

Did you ask the seller?

Yep. He had no idea either :-(

I did finally get the 3000 going this evening. I seemed to have scored one with 2meg Chip ram and 4 meg Fast Ram. Absolutely nothing on the hard drive bar WB 2, so i will have to hunt around for a couple of disks to start transferring files over. I'm guessing a 3.1 ROM and WB 3.1 would be a good start too :-)

Man that looks like some kind of creeping computer flesh eating ribbon cable.

No one has seen anything like this?
Bueller? Bueller?
