Title: Software for ADF Transfer kit (CF).
Post by: tokyoracer on January 09, 2008, 08:39:34 AM
I'm after useful software (for the PC side that is) and some tips on how to use it if it isn't too much to ask. I got the Amiga reading it just fine, it was alot more easy then I thought it would be but what's the best software for the PC (if any) to make the transfers more sucsessful)?

Thanks for looking. :-)

Can't you just copy the files to it by using the explorer?

Should be, if you have kept the CF card in original (FAT) format. If you formatted the card into some Amiga filesystem, then you have to think options on PC side.

It just works when you plug it into your PC (assuming you run windows. Havent tried other platforms for this ;))

I'm sure it is a FAT file system. So for example, folders on Window$ turn into drawers on the Amiga? :-?

Those two are the same thing, just different name for it.

If you mount the card using a DOS filesystem (CrossDOSFileSystem or, even better, Fat95) then yes, folders created on the card on the PC will show as drawers on the Amiga, and vice versa.

And just to save you the trouble of asking (in case you don't already know, if you do then just ignore me :-) ) you will also need this:

http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/cfd

to use Compact Flash cards in your PCMCIA slot, and this:

http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95

in order to use DOS formatted cards. Haven't used CFD in a while, but IIRC once the CFD device is mounted it will automatically detect when you have plugged in a card and mount it for you, whatever size it is.

well "CF Card" appears on the desktop as soon as I plug it in so I assume it is working. :-?
