Sweet! I learned video prod back in college on a Toaster. Then had a nice little setup with a 4000 after college doing weddings and commercials and stuff.
Recently, I started re-editing all my old college videos in Premiere and After Effects to fix up a few things. However, one thing that has eluded me are a few of the old Toaster wipes. Specifically, the organics: smoke, fire, pour, and clouds.
I've been keeping my eye on Craigslist and eBay hoping to get a Toaster for nostalgia's sake, and to use those wipes. But they all get expensive quickly. And for what I'd like to do with it, it's just not economically feasible.
Would you be willing to help me out? What I'd like to do is transition from solid black to solid white using the 4 different organic wipes I need. Can you wipe from black to white using those wipes and save that as an MOV or AVI? I could then use them as a luma track matte in After Effects to create old Toaster transitions.
Let me know, and thanks in advance either way!

Used to years ago, but switch to Final Cut...

As a Windows user you might be interested in Pixelan's organics

or Fusion Factory for Mac

That Pixelan stuff looks cool, but apparently it's only for Movie Maker.

Go to www.digitaljuice.com
You can probably convert some of their Motion Design Elements into Wipes.
They were the ones who originally did the Motion Backs for the FLyer.
I buy their stuff all the time and convert them into Amiga animations for ChromaKey use. It is very professional stuff and worth every penny...........check eBay regulary as you can get the stuff more than half the price.
Also...........get yourself SCALA MM300 or MM400 for the Amiga...............if the Amiga didnt have a Toaster hardware, then this would be the Software version. Its excellent and a must have more than any Amiga application.
It is basically PowerPoint or KeyNote for the Amiga, but with Video in Mind for Titling and wipes and lower thirds...etc.
Works a billion times better if you have an external Genlock with manual control.

Yes
:-D

Oh! and Duh! how could I forget! go to discreetfx.com website, as they sell Trasitions for the Toaster!
Check it out! they probably also have the Millenium TOaster upgrades! they are still highly active!

Well, I own a VT4000Flyer system, but I haven't been using it this last few months. (http://rcfreas.com/files/VTFlyersys.jpg)
Does that still make me a Toaster user? :-D

Nice setup! I'd love to tinker around with one of those babies again.

Yes, we are here!

Go for it! The only thing you need is money and room :)

@T3000
Dude.....get yourself Digital8 or MiniDV or DVD recorders for your Toaster Outputs instead of those S-VHS decks...........the difference is massively encouraging especially when making second generation copies.
using SVHS or tapes makes Amigas look very old and unprofessional these days.............I use a Digital8 DV camera for or DVD recorder so that I can record at 736x480 resolution from my A1200 output through th SuperGenSX genlock.
it looks exactly the same as on the RGB monitor pretty much.
Use SCALA to control the decks via the SCALA ECHO EE100 if your worried about SMPTE timing or whatever.
it will give your FLYER a new lease on life!

Yes, with multiple VTFlyer systems. :-o

What if you're worried about MPEG artifacts tainting your Flyer video? I can tolerate generation 2 deterioration more than I can tolerate MPEG'ing. MPEG makes it look peeceeish.

@IndyJones
Did you give up on buying some VT hardware then?

Oh no, not given up. I'm holding out for a price I can afford. It'd be a blast to use the Toaster again.

What can you afford?
Anyone else here interested in Video Toaster User magazines?
I also have other Amiga and a few Video related magazines I want to sell.

I just got my Toaster. We had one where I used to work and now I finally got my own, but it sit in a room for 5 years so after the first day the HD crashed then the mouse. I got WB re-installed but still need to get a mouse. We used the CG at the TV station I used to work at. It didnt have the Flyer. I cant wait to get mine up to par so I can play around with it.
Mine has the Flyer. Hope you find one or get the transitions you need. If I ever get mine up and running I would be glad to copy some of the organic transitions to some avi's and post them somewhere where you could get to them.

Oh man! I used to love reading VTU magazine. I was always looking for tips and tricks and tutorials.
As for what I can afford, well, I am a big poster on another forum and posted about the Amiga asking some of the old timers about the system and what I should look for. One of the nice members there offered me his 3000, once he digs it out of his closet. On the surface, it sounds like he'd send it to me for just shipping.
Once he finally gets around to it, if he wants a lot, I'll ping you again. For now, I'm hoping it's cheap! :)

Fair enough, let me know if you want to buy Toaster and Flyer cards for that A3000 you may be getting. I have an extra set that I was keeping as backups.

Sweet! Thank you in advance. It's been a couple of weeks. But I'm certainly not going to rush this guy since he's being so nice.
