Title: In Shadow of Time
Post by: rkauer on January 03, 2008, 02:04:40 AM
 Hello.

I've downloaded the full, final version of iSoT, but the game behaves like the demo found in Aminet: when you do all you can do in the laboratory an school and try to go to mall, the game restarts!:admonish:

 I do something wrong?:headwall:

 Now it is!

You can download it from Amiga Games That Weren't (http://agtw.abime.net/game.php?id=33)

 Ok, explaining better:

I downloaded it "Amiga Games That Weren't", but it behaves just like the original demo from Aminet.

Since I make all I can do in the John's house and at school, when I try to go to mall the game restarts with a message saying "Did you read the manual?".

I get stuck! That is some walkaround  for this issue?

It is called "IN SHADOW OF TIME", btw. I have download it, but never really played it because i dislike the graphics. Perhaps i will give it a try.
Did you delete the previous demo version before you install this one?

 Yep!

You've run into the barely mentioned copy protection. :)

When you're in the laboratory and have to mix the stuff, the printed game manual would have told you to mix it in (I believe, I could be wrong, doing this from memory) a 4-1-2 ratio.

Anything else and you eventually die.

Give it a shot. If 4-1-2 is wrong, give it a google, I saw it on a forum out there somewhere, just don't remember where.

After seeing the screen shots, it is the game demo thingy I remember from way way back. It sounded familiar. Isn't this the one where the programmer was going on about how he was doing it all in assembly and that was going to make it really awesome or something? Perhaps at that time there might also have been a flame war between assembly proponents saying it was faster and best for all things and higher level language proponents saying that it would be impossible to do most modern things in assembly because debugging would take longer or some such?

Dunno about the flame, but the author claims the game will be "inspired" in "Maniac Mansion" and/or "Monkey Island" adventure games (specially the kind of humor).

In the "blog" of the author, he said he create the tools to make the adventure before do the game itself, so you maybe are not wrong about it (the flame).

OK, I found it (the fix).

And the correct copy-protection is 4-1-3.

Anyone still playing this game? :-)

I'm stuck in part 3..

I completed the game a long time ago.

The final chapter is too short and not like the rest of the game (I think the coder gets tired or simply finish the game as it is, simplifying it too much).

But the gags on the other parts are good.

It just deserves a better end.

Do you have a hint for me for chapter 3? :-)
I have got my things back, a bow, a dress and some other stuff. I need my men to attack the castle, but to do this I think a have to get the music back and disable the castle defence. Maybe win a dragon contest?
I have been stuck in chapter 3 for some days now, I seem to have missed tomething :-?

Go to the tree and watch the guy who is the suppose treasure keeper. Follow him until you reach the hideaway.

This part of the game is very tricky, be warned. Go down the tree as soon as you see he leaving.

And you need to cure the musician too.

Oh, and forget about the Dragon contest! That's one of the last things you need to do.

I think that I have to get the musician to sleep, when I talk to him he keeps saying: "No, I haven't slept yet".
I belive that he will solve the problem with the depressed merry men.
I think I have to find a way to make him sleep, but I'm not sure.

Do you notice the farmer with a heavy thing? Shoot him!

After talk with the musician, do you don't think he need some fresh new musical ideas?;-)

Yes, puberty boys sure made him happy
I think that I suck playing this game. Still stuck :boohoo:

Maybe I have to get the lady away from the shop. Or figure out how to make the cook finish the boiling pot. It seems that I can't make any of the guards go away so I can't disable the castle defences, which I think have something to do with the hoist or chain that controls the gate.

UPDATE:
I managed to put the funny gas in the soup so that the merry men would attack the castle. Then I put the bag of puke in the well so they would not get shot anymore. Now the gate closes when they try to attack. I picked up some soup in the empty bag, I thought that I had to put it in the hoist, but no luck.. I'll try to figure out what to do tomorrow :-)

Maybe you need something to apply in the chain who operates the gates. Look at the remains on the cook's pan.

And you need to convince the keeper to use it. I think you need a vendor training... Learn with the best you can see.

Yes, I listened to the shopkeeper. (Vendor training?)
And I tried to use the bag of soup, from the cooks boiling pot, on hoist and chain.
When I talk to the guard that stands beside the gate about the bag of soup/glue/"lubricant" he says: "there is something that doesn't feel right".

I think that I have to put the soup in something else, but I'm not sure.

 Nope!

As a good vendor, you must be insistent at the worst level!;-)

Remember encyclopaedia vendors knocking on your parent's doors when you was a kid?:-P

I sure remember my mon saying "no thanks" several times, but they still kept comming back several times without selling anything

I have tried all four comments for selling the lubricant several times, but I get the same replies every time.
I still think I have to do something else first..
But since you have completed the game, you should be right :-)
I'll keep trying to convince him :-)

Edit: You were right! He took it! Thanks!!  :-D

Yep, that guard is like your mom in this matter.:-)

You must try several times until he accepts the "sample".

You were right! He took it! Thanks! :-D

I picked up the energy drink, after the magic dragon competition, but Will refuses to let Robin have it.

Enough for today.
And Again, thanks for your help

No.. But nice hint :-D
Open Magic dragoon can, use on cloth, Robin solves the problem.
It was easy to figure out how to repair the time machine ;-)
Now I'm in chapter 4 :-)
I recorded the ant's "roar" on the empty tape and put it in the mouth of the stoneface. Examined the three cave paintings and found the spaceship. Then I was caught..
Use alien body part on scanner, open vent, out again.
There was a food dispencer  I ate two times and picked up some again. It must be right, because I got points for doing that :-)
I can open one of the vents and operate a valve, but the alien closes it again.

Oh, enough for today.
It's nice playing when there are someone to help :-)

I figured out to use the energy pack on the water on the floor, the alien passed out. I managed to give the caveman some skills to help me get rid of some aliens, he has built something in his cave wich I think will help me get rid of the robot.

Nice, it seems that I'm getting somewhere now :-)

The rest of the game seemed too short :-?
But anyway, it was fun playing, it has been long time since I played an adventure game.

And again, thanks for your help :-)
