Title: Vortex GoldenGate SLC2 50MHZ
Post by: Jeff on December 29, 2007, 04:13:13 AM
My GoldenGate SLC2 50MHZ Bridgeboard just arrived from Germany. Initial tests look good. It boots to a 720k Dos 6.22 floppy in the Amiga DF0 drive in my A4000. Does anyone have a link to the english version of the manual? Mine is in German:-).

Also any quick get started/setup tips about this board would be helpful. I am having trouble getting an IDE hard drive to work on the GG controller.

One final note. Does anyone know what the jumpers do, or what the default settings should be?

Thanks,
Jeff

The hd is bigger than the GG BIOS can deal?

That generation of BIOS might limit you to 540 MB (or maybe 2 GB) of HDD size. :boohoo: Wikipedia: INT 13 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INT_13)

All the hard drives that I am trying to use are probably too big. I guess I'll start with a small Amiga partition first. Still, an english copy of the manual would be most helpful. As would any pointers from someone that has set one of these up.

Thanks,
Jeff

ah.... I have 2 of these puppies, very nice!
MAX HD size is 430MB. sad but true. Software bios add-ons like DiskManager or EZ-Disk that bypass this limit, do not always work on GG cards UNFORTUNATELLY. there is a 50-50% boot success rate. I have tried it many times with various debug options... what you can easily do, is create an amiga partition of ~430MB and assign it as a PC-HD on the GG BIOS...
if you want a soundcard for your GG, try to get a SoundBlaster 8bit one. they always work 1000%. newer models work too, but they tend to choke (due to isa bandwitdth of the GG I think)
A Cirrus Logic 542x vga is nice too
btw, the english GG manual is huge, I have not seen it online anywhere...
ask here what exactly you want and I will try my best to answer you...
