I have a Xbox 360 in its original box with 15GB HD (i think) with Controller,USB charger and re-chargeable battery. And Fifa 2006 and Dead Rising. And all cables to connect to T.V and has PSU.
I also have a well upgraded RiscPC, Specs here : http://www.freewebs.com/riscpc
I am looking for a BPPC card for my A1200. And maby a BVision aswell.
Or a Amiga A4000/A1200/T with similar specs as the RiscPC (for a straight swap or extra cash or something)
-
I have been offered a A1200 powered by a tower. It has loads and loadz of software and it has a
' Blizzard 1230-IV Turbo Board, with a 68030 CPU w/MMU & FPU running @ 50Mhz. A Blizzard SCSI-KIT IV is fitted to the expansion bus which does not load the CPU when in use. The two standard SIMM sockets can accept a total of 256mb but this unit comes with 32mb. Original boxes and manuals included. '
It has a CD drive, approximately 2.5GB HD and a 135w 'goliath' PSU
It has a Monitor aswell.
Do you think its worth trading it for my Xbox 360?
-
You do the math: what is the value of your offering in GBP and what should you pay for what he offers? Look on eBay for prices.
-
In short No!
-
He want £180
-
If you really want to upgrade your amiga to a state where it will surf the net aswell as it can and offer you mp3 playback aswell as gaming, 3d work etc etc etc then just sell your xbox 360 and use that money to buy a better card for your amiga like a ppc. Cause it really does sound like your going to get bored with an 030 quick.
-
Do you think anyone will swap the Xbox 360 for the a BPPC?
Or for a good 68K setup.
Or both/one for a good A1200T?
-
The problem you have just now is that OS4 has been released which is PPC only. Its just a case of playing the waiting game!
-
I doubt no one will trade it for a PPC then.
Do you think the Xbox 360 and/just the 360 is worth this:
http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33046
Or if now how much would i have to pay extra or waht would he need to take away for it the be equal??
-
Ok I'll say this for the last time:
I guess you're a bit clueless about what Amigas can offer you.
Think about what you want to do with your Amiga. I fear you will spend a lot of money on something that will not give you what you want. Even on a very high end Amiga doing modern stuff like browsing and other things can be a pain and for classic gaming you don't need a very high spec machine.
Now I'll shut up.

Dear Friend Gwion:
I would sell your xbox (and dont undersell...get the price that is worth)and use the money to get a accel card for your amiga. i would buy the accel card from amiga kit, this way you make sure you get a reliable card and don't have to worry about being ripped off by ebay scammers.
But if you want...you could always still buy from ebay, but be careful. These cards, on ebay, usually go from us$ 200 and up, all the way to us$500.
good luck!!!

Well i want to use Amiga for everything.
WinUAE is ok but emulation is slow and laggy compared to a proper amiga.
And i want to get a PPC to run OS4 and MOS on my A1200.
And if i traded my RiscPC/Xbox 360 for a good amiga and i didnt use the Amiga in the end i wouldnt mind (i dont use the Xbox 360 and RiscPC as it is)
But each time i disconnect my A1200 and not use it for ages i allways get a 'amiga craving' you all here should know what i mean

I guess you should stop using a Pentium 2 then and get yourself a decent pc.
My AMD XP2000+ runs in circles around my A4000T (040@40 MHz). If you have a Core2Duo or anything like that, there's not even use for comparisons anymore.

Read this post to see if it helps you out any :-)
Considering using Amiga as everyday system - questions! (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33271)
-
Everything seems ok for my use. and if i need something the amiga doesnt offer i can go on my iBook G3 700Mhz
-
All i want is a Amiga that can browse the web, play Mp3's, display 24bit colours and run OS 3.9 as a reasonable speed.
-
I have one, $2000.00 gets it to you.
-
Thats allot!
-
@Gwion
In my experience you need an 060 and a graphics card. The outlay is a lot and as others say, you could buy a very high spec PC for similar money.
I have an Apollo 1260 with 16MB ram, you could have that for £100 if you want, but £100 could get you a tasty dual core chip and 2GB ram.
-
Is there anything you would trade for it?
Have you got msn?
My addie is in my user page
And who cared about dual core and a 2GB RAM '060 and 16MB ram is so much better
-
Any one have a complete machine for trade?
If its a good system i would trade both the RiscPC and Xbox 360
-
in a couple years the 360 wont be worth much while the 1200 will still demand a fair price.
-
@gdanko
There you have a point...

mmm trade Amiga system for some Microcrap stuff, I'll think that will be a NEVER!!!
-
Ok i will give you some math to let you know what a high end amiga 1200 would cost ...
Acc board 060 or BPPC minimum 200£ at normal
Mediator Pci 100£ used
tower case maybe 40£ cheap used or 140£ for a new D-box
voodoo 3 20£
soundcard 20£
Lan 20£
Or a bvision for the bppc 100£
fast ata or other 20- 60 £
IF you buy all the stuff new exept the acc you will have to pay atleased 500£ for a system WINUAE can beat any day with both compability as well as speed and you can also browse nicly on that computer ... I would use the stock a1200 for a while if i were you maybe add a 1230... If that computer cant please you a 060 may never ...
Also to buy all the stuff second hand requires a long time lurking at ebay etc and may take months to make ,,.,
-
The thing is i have never had a go on a 'real' high spec amiga so im not sure if its worth me upgrading.
-
Dear Gwion,
reread Flashlab's post. let me tell you something: browsing the net
woth Amiga is not really a fun thing.
Put Opera on your iBook and you have the best for teh web that is
available.
Even the most advanced Browser for Amigaish computers (i.e. Sputnik
for MorphOS) is lieghtyears behind Opera or Firefox. Even the Sputnik
author says Opera is best and he probably will nevr reach taht level.
At home I browse the net with my Peg, but only becasue I am lazy to
fire up a 2nd computer (and for energy saving issues). But in the end
I ofthe end up in firing up my PC because my MOS-setup cannot handle
it.
To get the tast of Amiga you should go step by step. Get a A1200 with
some 030 card and use it.
btw.: the emulation is also a real good way to use amiga. You have the
highest 68k compatbility and low cost. And if you're stuck on the
Amiga side, there's always the host OS which can help you.
The amiga is really a brilliant computer, but do not expect miracles.
You're young and eager, but let the old wise man (that's not me of
course, i am neither old nor wise ;-) ) tell you something: The more
you expect the more you'll get disappointed. Expect the lowest (and
start low) and you will have a positive experience.
