Title: Solved: Os4 classic boot problem after install.
Post by: derringer3 on December 22, 2007, 06:47:10 PM
I have a problem with os4 classic on my bppc+mediator+voodoo3.
After i install the os4 and the installer tell me that i can switch off my computer, wait 15sec and turn it on... Well when i   switch on, the boot procedure fails. The system seems to be booting, but after a few secs it won't boot. Just remain silent and the screen is black.  When i put the os4 bootfloppy, and reset/or wait, the hard disk booting into os4. And i can boot it into while i don't switch the computer off. (only reset)
Maybe it is filesystem problem, but ffs and sfs do the same. Sometimes ffs tells me that no device in dh0 in aga screen.
I have and ide 80GB samsung hdd. It worked fine under os3.x

So what is the solution?

Did you do as the manual told you when adding FFS in the media toolbox?

@derringer3

The Kickstart ROM version of the IDE scsi.device only works
with the first 4GB of a harddisk. So when booting directly
from the OS4 partition fails but it works after inserting
the OS4 boot floppy which loads the OS4 version of the
IDE scsi.device which has no 4GB problem, my best guess is
that your OS4 boot partition is not located completely inside
the first 4GB of the IDE harddisk.

I had the same problem (it simply didn't boot after the end of the installation) with a 30Gig HDD. I did EXACTLY what the manual said: I partitioned my HDD using the 'OS4 Template', formated the partitions, installed (again!) the OS and everything worked fine!

Problem solved: I set up a new boot partition, now under the 4GB barrier. Now working fine.
Maybe someone add to this on the requirements/hints of installing os4 classic section.

THX Tetisoft anyway.
