Dear Santa:
For Christmas, I wish either a 15" or 17" LCD monitor with built in
"FF-SD", by using "reverse engeneering" technique. This way the LCD monitor
can be used with ALL Amigas and also on them "other" computers. Since Gateway has some proprietary rights
to the Amiga and since one of their CEO's is leaving and since Acer bought out
Gateway and have access for mass production of this LCD monitor."
Yes, Santa, I was a good boy...."
I can dream, can't I ?...Ho-ho..ho-ho!
Thanks A-Org!
-
Errr they are already being produced. They're called LCD TVs.

They don't have Scart.

Dear Santa:
For Christmas, I wish for terrorists to blow up amiga inc.
Yes, Santa, I have been a good boy this year....
-
Dear Santa
Give me a working minimig for Christmas then Rudolph and the rest of the gang get to see December 26th
Got the idea? Good ...

Plenty of monitors can display proper video and VGA & have multiple inputs etc....
Try looking at NEC multisync's for a start.
.....and yes, you'll bleed through your wallet for some of them.

Mine does. So do lots of others.

I was talking about people in the US

Well they have S-Video and composite, and high-end ones have component RGB. Any of these are compatible with the Amiga.

Dear Santa,
What I want for X-Mas is 5'4", 100.lbs and Chinese. ;-) Kristen Kreuk would suffice.....

That's one heck of a lot of chicken fried rice old lad!

Yeah, unfortunately we don't use RGB component, it's YPbPr so you still need some kind of converter. I tried the JROK RGB -> component converter, and it basically sucked (IQ/interference issues). There's a guy here in the States that's supposed to make a decent one though (plug and play with the amiga), I think there's a thread on amigaworld with his contact info. I'll probably pick one up sometime next year... as soon as I find an LCD TV that handles PAL properly, de-interlaces, is a correct aspect ratio AND has an 8 bit/pixel panel, instead of the usual TN garbage. (Another PITA.)
-
That does indeed suck! I've got a PAL LCD screen here which I'm not using. It handles PAL Amiga screenmodes perfectly. Not sure about the bits per pixel but I can find out if you're interested?

is "Santa" good with computer jargon?

Agreed! She's the reason I've watched Smallville
But I saw Lana get killed in that car bomb on Sunday :bigcry:

Dear Santa,
I want to get really rich so I can spend my spare time designing a new Amiga and buy AInc and put everybody to wash my car
Of course have my own jet plane, a huge house at the beach and two nympho brunettes also would not be so bad... :-D :-D :-D

TN? Please explain!

I'd like a 24" TFT, a HP all in one printer/scanner and a Pleo robotic Dinosaur.

Dear Santa,
For christmas i would like an Amiga1200D with
internal CD/DVD rewriter, 80GB hard disk, Blizzard PPC 603e, 256MB of RAM, BVISION and USB already built.
Oh and i would be so greatful if you could have OS4 already installed and ready for me to use.
BTW ive been a really good boy

for christmas I want Santa, but female one please.. :-D

TN = Twisted Nematic, one of the predominant LCD panel types, also the most common in smaller LCD TVs due to the generally faster pixel response vs other panel technologies (less visible "smearing" etc.) and lower manufacturing cost.
Unfortunate downside is, while in theory 8 bit/pixel TN panels could be produced, the are generally (perhaps in all cases) 6 bit/pixel panels, so there's a significant color loss. Most use some form of dithering to achieve what they advertise as "16.2 million" colors (as opposed to the 16.7+ million of "real" 8 bit/pixel panels)... but the color loss and dithering artifacts are still pretty noticeable.

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1039222
Now, you have to be pretty careful these days, as some manufacturers deviously advertise 16.7 million colors when that's simply not the case. I have an Aquos that is clearly a 6-bit panel (at all resolutions it supports), though the docs state otherwise. :/
I'll *try* to get a few videos up tomorrow, one showing an image on a PVA panel, and the dithering effects of the same image on a TN type.
It's really not a big deal in most cases ("TN garbage" may have been a little extreme), but for an AGA monitor it's definitely not ideal.
@motorollin
Thanks man! I may take you up on that, or at least the model info. I have my eye set on one that I'm pretty sure will do everything I need it to, IF it ever pops up on ebay, LOL.

That's right - a Sanity Clause :devildance:

@-D-
"TN garbage" may have been a little extreme
Well, perhaps for TV sets, but for monitors "TN garbage" is appropriate. TN should be avoided, especially for 24" or larger where the limited viewing angle can hurt direct front viewing already.
If you're getting a new 24" (or larger) TFT, avoid TN.
-
@Piru
That's not so easy to do, considering price of PVA/MVA and how rare they are in some places.
Also, many sellers and even manufacturers don't state the type of panel at all, some even don't know.
-
Well I'm more'n happy with me Philips 17" TFT ... but I guess thats Thin Film Transistor, and not strictly LCD. is it ? d'you know I never bothered to check ?
-
@orange

Well, non-TN usually are more expensive, sure, but considering how important component the monitor is, IMHO the higher price is acceptable.
and how rare they are in some places.
Rare? Surely not? Say BenQ FP241W are all over the place.
Also, many sellers and even manufacturers don't state the type of panel at all, some even don't know.
If they don't list such information it's a good idea to try a dealer and/or manufacturer who do.
-
@ Moto
I've got a PAL LCD screen
What make and model is your one? and was it any good for AGA?
Ive been looking at afew of them and some just seem abit crappy :-(
-
Piru, the model "BenQ FP241WZ" costs at least 783 eur here. (over 900 eur on average)
and its not all about TN/MVA/etc, you have to consider Mura_effect (http://www.behardware.com/articles/589-1/panels-a-carte-mura-components-dead-pixels.html),
too.
I have been using Samsung 970p for several years. maybe its got good viewing angle and so, but I can easily see the three (neon?) lamps in background when displaying what should be uniformly colored screen.
changing brightness/contrast doesn't help.
-
@orange

And it sure is worth every eurocent (was 740 when I bought mine). Note that FP241W is cheaper than FP241WZ. Z has some extra movie magic in it, I'm quite happy with the regular FP241W.
Great article there btw, explains why el cheapo monitor usually is a bad idea.
