Title: WHDLoad blight
Post by: BodyHammeR on December 16, 2007, 02:06:04 PM
After recieving my EasyADF package yesterday (huzzah!) I hooked up my A1200 again and tried installing WHDLoad 16.8.

Not very successful though...

After copying the whdload_usr.lha to my CF card and CLI-ing a

lha e whload_usr.lha work:

I open the work:whload folder, click on the installer and get an error the installer cannot be opened.

Any hints on how to get whdload working?

Regards,

Is it the icon that wont open or is it asking for c:installer as you might be missing this file

You could try to install it manually. Just a case of putting things in the right drawers. The readme shold tell you where

It is not asking for c:installer, it just says it can't open the installer when I click the icon.

EDIT:
Where do I find the readme in the whdload_usr.lha? I can only find the HTML documentation - which is also available on the whdload website and not very helpful when it comes to sovling my blight.

Okay when clicking on the WHDLoad Install icon I get the following errormessage:

Onmogelijk 'Installer' tool te openen (impossible to open 'installer' tool)

And when trying to execute the WHDLoad Install from the CLI:

install: bestand niet uitvoerbaar (install: file not executable / cannot execute file)

I checked my System/C and there seems to be a 'install' program there.

I already tried to copy the files in WHDLoad/C and WHDLoad/S manually to the System/C and System/S folders using the CLI, but after a while my system hangs/crashes/resets.

it sounds like you need to put installer ver43.3 into you C:drawer

How do i tell which version of installer I have? And where can I get ver43.3?

EDIT:
Of course: http://aminet.net/util/misc/Installer.lha
Now do I just copy the 'Installer' file (131.524 bytes) in system:c/ ?

Oh Silly Me(tm):

I tried manually copying the WHDLoad files using a *, where I had to copy them one at a time <- that did the trick.

WHDLoad seems to be working fine, now where did I hide my kickstart dumps?

OH YAY! \o/

:-D

You should try getting something like Diskmaster 2 to do your file transfers. its easier than typing the cli commands and less chance of making mistakes. You can also unlha files with it

Doesn't AmigaOS use #?, rather than * ?

Code: [Select]

copy df0:#? ALL to dh0:

Yes opn Amiga OS, wildcard is: #?.

Unpack Installer -> Copy Installer to C:, then install.

The Amiga system can use either.

#? is the normal Amiga way, but toggle the RNF_WILDSTAR node (iirc) and you can type * instead in most circumstances. MCP has an option for that, and there are also ancient standalone progs for it.

Ed: Yes, I did recall correctly (excepting it's a bit, not a node), here (http://aminet.net/search?query=wildstar) it is.

Thanks for the hints and suggestions, I'm a bit new to the whole Amiga with harddisk thing ;)

After a quick search I only found OS4 versions of Directory Opus 4 and Diskmaster 2. My A1200 uses 3.1 (on kickstart 3.0) so I doubt those will work...

EDIT:
Ah, Ami Sector One has DOPUS4 - YAY!
