Title: Z4 (in)compatibility
Post by: Matt_H on July 17, 2003, 01:08:06 PM
As my Micronik power supply creeps towards death, it's becoming imperative that I get it replaced. I have at AT PSU and Z4 Bus ready to go as replacements, but the Z4 seems to hate my Blizzard060.

Without the Blizz connected, eveything works beautifully - aside from the fact that it's down to an 020 2Mb.
With the Blizzard connected, some cards cannot be detected.
With the Blizzard and a PowerFlyerZIV connected, I can't even begin to get the system to boot. Won't even get to Early Startup.

It's an early run Phase5 Blizz, so I'm thinking another accelerator might work. What luck have people had with accelerators and the Z4 Bus?

Thanks. (Any resemblence between this post and my very first Amiga.org post is entirely coincidental) :-)

All these boards need power so I can understand your system is unstable with a not so strong psu. I had the same problem, solved with a bigger psu.

Are all the jumpers on the Z4 board correctly set?

I remember moving from my Blizzard PPC to an Apollo 060 for a while and panicked for about a week because it wouldn't work.  Then I remembered to check the jumpers and all went fine.

@ lionstorm

I don't think it's the power supply. The Micronik is a 200W, the new one is 300W. I don't think a different busboard could suck up whatever power is free from 200 + another 100W.

@ yoodoo

I've tried every possible jumper combination. No dice.... But you had it working with a PPC/060? That's a good sign, since I'm considering upgrading...

I have a Power Tower/Z4/Apollo060 setup which recently had all sorts of boot problems.

I finally tied down the problem to the P8/P9 plugs supplying power to the Z4.

I suggest you thoroughly check the status of the connectors in the P8/P9 plugs.

They are very easily displaced/fatigued, which leads to all sorts of problems.

If you're handy at DIY, strip down the connectors and satisfy yourself that thay really are making good connections to the Z4. I've had no problems since.

Cheers,
