So my a500 just took a dive (see "wanted to buy") and I thought I'd give a crack at emulating on a Macbook in the meantime.
*sigh*
Maxuae runs perfect. No slowdown, all of my disks run BUT there's no audio!! Has anyone else encountered the same issue?
E-UAE ran semi decently but has gotten worse after several tries! Now it......is....ssssllllooooo....wwwwwww....and completely unusable..
I've tried many different combinations and it all just kind of gives me some piss-poor performance. Am I SOL?
:pissed:

Make sure you are using the latest E-UAE universal binary, and check the OpenGL option is on. This should give you a perfect expereince :-)
-
while it helped with some things I'm now getting a "need more cpu power" message via musicline...
I'm using a Macbook for %$^@*'s sake! How much more do I need to emulate a computer older than some of my relatives?
-
ok I give up. This isn't worth the headache. :-?
-
Is it a MBP? Sure you aren't running the PPC binary?
I'm using E-UAE on my MBP, and it runs smoothly. Try downloading the source and compiling it yourself.

I looked at "get info" and it said it was a power pc app..wtf? Should this be? Mind you I usually don't emulate systems so you might need to explain this to me like a child. I specifically used the OSX binary. Also it's just a MB no MBP here!

This is an intel version of E-UAE that I have compiled for MacOSX 10.4 it will run perfectly on your MB. Make sure you have the opengl option set.

Not working?
Doesn't open with / without Hi-Toro..

I've just downloaded, and tested it on my spare MB... it works fine... simply replace your existing UAE.app with this file...!
I honestly don't know what you are doing wrong...
What happens when you double click on the icon?
-
First I really need to express my gratitude for your assistance. Thank you very, very much!
Second..when I double click the icon nothing happens. Simple as that!
-
very odd... at the very least you should get a requester looking for a config file...
Ok, "get info" and tell me what you see...
the Kind should be Application (intel)
the Size should be 11.1MB
the Version should be 0.8.29-WIP4
-
yeah...same on this end but no requester.
strrrrange! :-?
-
The thing that baffles me is that it says I need more CPU power in musicline editor and that I experience major slowdown in programs like octamed.
Demos run fine along with games.
Weird.

Maybe you gave away the debug version with zerolinking?
Here is a german website offering E-UAE

No, I compiled it straight... it will work fine, and many people here have used it, without problems.

Yes, try this one too... It should be an identical build to mine (though his is Universal, mine is just intel)... it should work the same :-)

Cool! It works! Not really sure why yours didn't but I have to be missing something on my end. Bizarre.
However I continue to experience some hefty slowdown when I shouldn't. I usually only run the emu on it's own...no background programs, browsers, etc. Am I missing a setting where it devotes all resource to performance?
I have the OpenGL rendering checked, Emulation speed is at max, etc etc.
Even in games if all four notes play at once it slows down. :-?

Yeah, I think I linked it against SDL... Sorry about that  Try installing SDL and then trying mine again... it might work better than the other one.

I use mine on MacBook Pro to run OctaMED in the recording studio... so I need it running at full speed... as I said try and get SDL installed and try it then :-)

hmm..Just threw sdl in the libraries and still experience the slowdown / need more cpu power prompts
This is a head scratcher for sure.
Is a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1.5 GB just not ehough to emulate an A500's four channel audio?!
Maybe it has to be the config files.
-
You have installed SDL and tried my UAE build? Hmmm this is odd... Are you London uk based perhaps I can help in person?

It's more than enough. I had no problems running things at full speed with a 1.25Ghz PPC Mac.
It's most likely your config files. I know I had troubles with Hi-Torro and saving settings.
Look in ~/Library/Preferences, perhaps it's there. I don't recall.
Lastly (for every Mac user): if you click on an app and nothing happens (it's almost always missing dylibs or damaged executable), just run it from the Terminal and you'll find out why (or check the system logs). Ex, to run application XYZ from the Terminal, just do: /Apps/XYZ.app/Contents/MacOS/XYZ
Good luck!

Has this issue been resolved now?
-
Hello again!
Apologies for the late response as the holidays have been crazy to say the least. Crazy but fun!
Um, yeah, I'm still having the problem to be honest. It keeps saying I don't have enough memory which makes no sense whatsoever as I'm using files that worked just fine on the A500 / A1200 and now I magically don't have enough memory. Might I be missing something in that regard?

@amigan24 and @bloodline:
As both of you run OSX, it might be a good idea if bloodline tries to assist amigan24 by using remote-desktop on the Apples. That way, bloodline can stay where he is and help amigan24 as if he stood beside him. Just a thought.
