Title: CS MKIII to CS PPC ?
Post by: Jeff on December 08, 2007, 05:25:28 PM
I started this thread back in 2004 and it died as "Not Possible". I'm sure that is still true, however I thought I would check one more time.

With OS 4 a reality now and PPC cards pushing a grand if you can even find one, is this an option now for the people that own CS MK III's?

Mac processor cards with a 233 CPU are a throw away item these days. I know it's a BGA CPU and the average guy in the garage can't install it. Could a company do it for a fee, or would that cost a grand also? What about the rest of the components and the firmware upgrade?

Thanks for any thoughts.

It would be cheaper to sell the MKIII and invest the proceeds for a CSPPC.

You have a high risk of breaking the card altogether.

There is always a chance that one of the CPLD chips on the MKIII is not the same as the PPC, so even after you fit the chip, power etc. it wouldn't work.
