From the AmigaKit website:
*** First batch of stock has now arrived today and has been completely sold out: next batch of stock due shortly ***
Oh yes, there *IS* an OS4 market!! :-D
-
Next batch in a couple of days- dont worry!
-
Way to go OS4
-
Well, this makes me happy - OS4 actually selling. Hope you-know-who sees this.
Pity there's no 68k version (my PPC is b0rked)

Oh yes I am sure they ordered in 100's of copies. Small retailer, maybe 5 copies...10 at most.
Hardly an OS4 market! :horse:
-
I guess it's nice that they're selling units, however I suspect that the number would be in the low hundreds, tops...
Hardly a thriving market, more like the (shrinking) pool of Amiga enthusiasts buying it...
Still, it's better to see this, instead of the usual: "The release has been delayed until Q4 2xxx"!
-
I bet Bill Gates and Steve Jobs buys a copy to add to the collection.

Or to steal something from it... You know old Billy boy.... :-D

Hope I'm in the 1st batch.
And if I'm not and that software ideas tealeaf billyboy is in front of me, there is going to be serious trouble.
;-)
@Amigakit
Have those in the 1st batch already been notified?

Although "delivered" means passed to the delivery service. Should be here by 3pm tomorrow, but I'll be at work, so either 1) I'll have to collect it from some depot in Landsend, or 2) they read the notice on my door and leave it in my garden shed :-).
Wow, I guess OS4 really will be here rsn. ;-)

Well that's a massive dissappointment.
Not in the 1st batch.
Not happy.
According to the email taking orders from Amigait, it was sent early hours Saturday morning.
Didn't get the email until late Sunday morning.
That has obviously cost me.
Will be at least another week until I get my hands on it.
Might have to change my ISP in protest now.

and here we have the eternal pessimist
Sadly no, probably an eternal realist. How many working PPC cards are in the wild? How many of those aren't mothballed? How many owners who actually own and use PPC cards will want it opposed to free solutions like MorphOS? Low hundreds sound realistic. I've heard guesses of low 10s (maybe 20-50) worldwide. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS.That is probably too low, but 100-300 could be close.
-
@redrumloa,
I'm guessing about 500.
there's several copies in order just from my area (Raleigh/Durham)

Hyperion and ACube were, however, pleasantly surprised with the actual demand. The announcement on the 30th said that the number of orders had been twice what they expected. Maybe their sales teams are a bunch of pessimists, err, realists too.

Hey that is great, but what number where they starting from? What were their expectations?

Absolutely no idea; hence the "pessimist" comment. ;-)
I'm guessing that they started with looking at known sales figures of PowerPC accelerators, and the number of known broken ones. This would have been followed by some arm waving and (semi-)random scale-factor picking. Maybe a quick look at the OS 3.5 sales figures could be included there too.
It would be nice to know how many copies they sold. Actually, it would be more interesting to find out how many individual people they sold copies to, that don't already have an A1.
