the only way to get rid of this freak is to ignore him completely. His only goal is to achieve attention and by getting no feedback at all, it will go away and one of the mods can take care of the crap.

I don't care either way, but it's just sad that they have nothing better to do than beg for attention and BJ's on a public forum.

As for why people respond, well I can understand why. The guy is acting totally inappropriately and people want to put him in his place - just like you would if somebody on the street were saying the things he does. Even knowing it will probably just provoke him further, it's difficult to just let it go.
