Out of interest, does OS4 come with a 4.0 version of KickStart?

Yes, kind of, its loaded from disk.
-
Is it KickFlashable? (like the OS3.5/OS3.9 ROM Updates?) Is it a patch to 3.1 or a total replacement? And what happens if you kick the 4.0 kickstart with no HDD connected and no floppy in the drive?

You will get the OS4 Bootscreen. AFAIK its a total replacement, no idea if its flash-able.
-
Thanks! It would be good to see the OS4 boot screen, since we all know what the versions from all other kickstarts look like :-) Please somebody who has OS4 Classic post a picture of the OS4 boot screen :-)

I hear there are loads of reboots with OS4 after cold reset. Would be a step forward if there was a way to get rid of this.

Someone give me a CSPPC and I'll test OS4 with my KickFlash. Anybody?
:-P

I will surelly test it with my 2 csppc's and 3 kickflashes

Well I'm about to place an order for OS4 Classic, even though I can't run it. I'm worried that this will be the only release, so I want to keep a copy around just in case somebody finds a way to run it on a Mac 8-)

I plan to do the same.
I am quite certain that someone will make OS4 run on a suitable Mac.
The way I see it selling OS4 to run on PPC-macs is the last business model that will ever get the developers,
or Amiga Inc for that matter, any money to speak of...
AmigaOS4 for the Classic Amiga is fairly Dead-End from a business perspective!

Thanks! A bit disappointed there's not more to it, but I suppose you should never see it anyway :-)

There's only *one* reset (like the one you had on OS3.9) to load the OS4 kernel.
The first time you install OS4 the floppy disk makes an additional reset to update the scsi.device with a more modern one. But that's it.
My A3000 has quite stable hardware and coldboots quite fast.
The reset done to load the OS4 kernel is longer than the OS3.9 one, but it's acceptable, just like the reset done to load MorphOS.

It's great to see so many people buying/supporting it even if they are unable to run it yet 8-)
To me it would be a 'must have' Amiga trophy regardless of whether I could run it on not
