Title: This really can't be good...
Post by: AMC258 on December 02, 2007, 02:35:40 AM
I've never seen anything like this:
I turn on my A3000UX (CSPPC, Meditator) and it goes into ROMWack, well actually not, but it doesn't boot and it spews out a large quantity of information through the serial port.  I would never know this except that I have a dumb terminal connected to the serial port all the time.

My dumb terminal does not have a feature to pause the display, and no scrollback buffer, and the data scrolls past so fast I don't know exactly what it says.  It eventually stops and I get some things that say "SDID 0xF SCID 0x47 SSIC 0x0"[CR][LF]

I cannot get to the early startup menu, but I can get to the CSPPC early menu which normally happens before the normal 3.1 Early Startup.

I recently switched from PFS3 to SFS.  This output does not come from SFS, does it?  Or, is it the CSPPC board?  Or, is this something from the 3.1 ROM that I've never heard of before?

I really hope this Amiga hasn't croaked days before I get OS4.0!!

This is the best picture I can get with my crappy digicam:

Ok, I sussed it.

I had some memory trashing and then I rebooted, and that's when the problem surfaced.  Apparently, the memory trashing was so bad some undocumented SCSI command was sent that was understood by my undocumented RAID controller.  It really jazzed up the RAID configuration, in such a way to make the CSPPC SCSI controller panic and blurt out everything it knows.  Much sweat later, I managed to wipe out the RAID controller and reconfigure it and voila everything is back to normal.

Okay, now no more playing around until OS 4.0 gets here:-D Congrats on getting the machine back up.

Have Fun,
Jeff

I've resumed debugging, and I've caused the same memory-trashing situation half a dozen times already, but so far I haven't had to reboot :-?  I suppose I should do an incremental backup just in case

Actually what I should do is give up and go to bed already.  If I don't stay up all night worrying about it I'll figure it out right away in the morning.
