Title: My journey to Europe begins...
Post by: Gavilan on November 27, 2007, 07:35:47 PM
With a little proud, and a lot of effort, its about time i announce that on december the 25th, my journey to Europe begins

I know some of you must think im crazy by visitng Europe during winter, but, the ticket was a gift from my mother to celebrate my 32 birthday so..i couldnt say no...

To make it short, i will be about2 months in Europe, with just my backpack and all my desire of meeting as many places (and fellow Amigans) as possible.

For sure, i will be in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, south France (not sure wich cities yet, but maybe Carcassonne, Bourdeaux, Nize, Marseille), Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham, Warsaw, Krakaw, Budapest, Bucarest, Prague, Brno, Zagreb, some parts of Italy (not sure where yet), Zurich, Salzburg, Ljubliana, Belgrade, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven and some other cities i have just to decide.

If by any chance, you happen to live in one of those cities, and want to meet one of the few remaining 100% Amiga user from Argentina, share a beer or a cup of tea/chocolate, let me know, PM,. write me an email or something!

Any hints/tips on what to visit, where to stay (chepaest way possible please since my budget will be very short) any other citis i should visit etc etc etc are more than welcome!!!!

I want to meet as many of you as possible!! Make my dream come true please!!

PD: of course, i have some $$$ saved to buy Amiga gear!!!
 :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D

Gracias!

Sebastian

If you go through Belgium (between France and The Netherlands), just visit Brugge, in my opinion the only beautiful city in Belgium, but one of the most beautiful cities in this part of Europe.

Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven

Skip Eindhoven. Unless you have a real destination (a person to visit perhaps?) in that city it's not much worth to look at IMHO (no ancient town center or anything). There's just a lot of houses and some Philips factories and overall it's rather boring (lived there for 12 years).

Rotterdam is cool for it's architecture, and Amsterdam is, well.... Amsterdam. I guess everyone knows it but it's not really my cup of tea (unless when viewed from the Amstel river, in an Empacher boat. Race rowing rules!).

Tips for visiting Holland:
Cities: Utrecht and Maastricht. These cities are 2nd and 3rd after Amsterdam when it comes to monumental buildings, and thought still crowded, it's not a mass-touristic as Amsterdam.
As for places to stay: Bed&Breakfast inns are becoming rapidly widespread in Holland. Quite a few of them are pretty cheap as well.

Yes its possible to visit though I'm not sure what you have in mind as its quite far from the grand forest that they make it out to be in films etc!

PM me with any info about when you're going to be in Nottingham. I'm going on holiday from the 22nd of Dec until the 7th January with family but if you're around before or after then I'll happily meet up with you :-)

If you are in Europe during winter, you surely don't want to miss Lapland, Finland (or northern Norway / northern Sweden)- snow everywhere and only stars and aurora borealis lights the sky. And sunrise and sunset happen nearly at the same time together.

Well, im in Nottinghamshire too, just on the border with Rotherham.

Having said that, im in a village, so there isn't exactly much to see where I am in particular. Having said that, you’d be welcome to call over for a cuppa; and you'd be the first Amigan that I'd of met from overseas...

Look up "Carlton-In-Lindrick, Worksop, Nottinghamshire (NOTTS)" and that's where I am.

Hodgkinson.

If you like, you can plod around my area of Norwich in the east UK. Plus your never far from the coast and there is plenty to know and see. Norwich isn't just made up of Alan Partridge and slack jaw'd fools.

Oh and if you are a Python fan then theres even a street you can walk down to this day and reconise it as it's remained unchanged for a good 200 years or so. A couple of scenes were shot there so if you are a fan i'm sure you would know it.

Heh, my journey to Europe doesn't begin until June 10 when I leave from San Francisco.  So far, planned stops are London, Bradford/Leeds (for the Commodore Scene meeting), Aberdeen, Scotland (to visit relatives); Maarssen, the Netherlands (for the Netherlands Commodore Show); Bochum, Germany (for the Dienstagstreff meeting), Opava, the Czech Republic (for the Monastery Party), and Antwerp, Belgium (for the Amigaclub meeting).  In all that, I'd like to squeeze in a visit to Paris.  No word back from the SEAL club (South Essex Amiga Link) nor from Matthew L. at AmigaKit nor from Hans Franke of the Vintage Computer Festival Europa (for a visit to Munich).  I return to America on July 10.

Woot! I am going to Europe in June as well! I have not decided yet which countries to visit (not too many in any case), or even the exact date yet, but I think it's going to be quite amazing... Can't wait... 8-)
