So now just wait for Hypes explanation that Amiga OS4 is not late it was actually completed in 2003 but some evil force in outer space held Hermans hostage and treathened to kill him if they released it. Eventually Hermans escaped and killed the aliens and that's why they could release it FINALLY.
TehH Am1ga!1! Rul3Z!1 :-D

3 days left!!!...... :-D
-
I will see how it goes when its released. Maybe someone will post a youtube video running it.

Copy ordered! Can't wait to try it!! :-D

I will post one if I can get my son over here to film it. I have a pre-order from amigakit due shortly. I don't own a video camera. All that high tech junk gives me the jeepers.
-
/sigh or old skool afew things holding me back from buying :(
1) I live in New Zealand
2) I would have to source and buy an A1200
3) I would have to source and buy a PPC card
Plus the outlay cash wise would make all the above a very expensive exercise.
I long for the days when one could walk into the local computer store and purchase Amiga gear off the shelf.
On that note I have been noticing a huge increase in Mac stores, especially in malls. A sign of things to come? :-)
-
isnt new zeland 5 or 8 years behind the rest of the world?.. then there should not be no problem getting cheap amiga's and stuff....
-
Does anyone here have an awful fear that this is gonna be pirated on day 1, accrue no sales and see Hyperion wash its hands of the Amiga scene forever????
-
@Lurch
We have quite a few customers in New Zealand and regularly ship there.

its one thing you must understand when it comes to pirates, they want mainstream things and access to cheap hw.... aos4.0 and the amiga hw is none of that. if you want aos4.0 that bad, so you throw your months salary on a rare ppc card. your a fanboi and dont pirate...
-
ddniUK wrote:

Of course it will be pirated like everything else, just look around... But I am quite confident most people will still buy the original nevertheless. The Amigans know pretty well that development will only continue when they support it financially.
-
I'm in the mood to make a road-trip and break the fsck'n knee caps of any fsck'er who would pirate OS4 and cause such a situation.

why in your wildes fantasy do you think this will happen, there is nearly no hw to run it on and the ones that have a ppc card are amiga fanbois, and these fanbois are buying it, period!...
pirates like windows and pirate that.... there is nothing to gain in pirating aos4.0, period!
-
Now I have a BPPC and will buy my copy of os4.0
But,weren't we all Amiga fan boys back in the day? I wager that fandom didn't stop most of us gathering up a few dodgy floppies along the way...
Today, given the number of posts I see about non working WHDload installs (mainly due to pirate keyfiles) My faith in the Amiga community to wholeheartedly support current, active and developing software is limited.
Bear in mind, the tiny number of potential classic PPC customers, means that even a small loss to piracy could mean the difference between a profit or loss situation for Hyperion. That is assuming of course that a profit is even possible given the man years it has taken to get the product out of the door.
MY MESSAGE IS: DON'T PIRATE OS4 CLASSIC

I second that opinion of course. Now that we're finally going to get OS4, it would be crazy to shoot ourselves in the foot and end up getting no updates and support. In fact, I may insist on paying for it twice :-D :pint:
-
I'm almost tempted to buy it even though I don't have a PPC card, just in case some crazy foo decides to sell a PPC card on the cheap ;-)

@motorollin,
'm almost tempted to buy it even though I don't have a PPC card, just in case some crazy foo decides to sell a PPC card on the cheap
I was thinking of buying a copy as well just in case I ever end up with PPC hardware again.
-
Jeez guys - the rate we're going we'll end up with more copies of OS4 classic sold than there are PPC cards!! :-D
-
I will buy 1 copy at first and if i use the os very day and like it i wil buy one more ,,,
-
spihunter wrote:

I think you would be very wise to do that. If you got a PPC and then couldn't get OS4, you would be feeling as a lot of us have felt over the past few years.
Only a couple of months or so ago it looked like we would never get OS4 for the classic Amigas. But now it's all very exciting stuff
Hey! In just over an hour someone could start a thread titled '1 day until AOS4.0 is released!!!!!' 8-) :pint:

its one day left!!!!!!!! get ready to reclaim the streets and kick down the doors!!!!!!

-
Heh, I ordered in advance as soon as it hit the Amigakit online store. :-)
-
exciting, for those with classic PPCs.
Look forward to seeing the YouTube videos of it in action at least ;-) Does anyone intend to do this??
-
go buy it anyway, i am and i dont have a ppc. maybe i buy two copies to, just to give my support for this great product. :)
when we get this new aos4.0 going, new ppc cards for the classic will come, dont worry about that :)
-
Just something to consider.
If Amiga Inc win their court case against hyperion, then all these copies of AOS 4.0 will be illegal pirate copies.
-
Maybe but Hyperion would be the only party able to pay
it's own lawyers.
I'm gonna order one too.
-
Yeah im gonna order one. Frame it and put it into a clear plastic box. and stand it in the middle of my living room.
-
I still find it annoying that you have to buy this old expensive very specific type of card to run it, but at least the classic users now finally have something they can get their teeth in to!

dont worry when aos4.0 is out the door, i am 100% sure there also will come a new ppc card for the a4000/a1200, it will takes some time to make but i am sure it will come... so just get your hands on a copy ;)

If you are trying to say that piracy killed the Amiga, you are quite wrong, I'd say. Commodore never sold software, at least not as a software company but as a side-product, its main business was hardware, so piracy would have been even "good" for them: since soft was "easy to obtain", more people would have bought the hardware needed to run it. This has happened to many other platforms: PC, Playstation, even Mac (it was told about Mac that they even gave some sort of "carte blanch" to University students to "pass software around", in the believing that they would then buy a Mac to use it).
Of course, I'm NOT defending piracy, but those concepts shouldn't be mixed. And we all know the cause of the Commodore demise: awful management, including nearly no investment in Amiga promotion and advertising, or announcing a new model while they still had a large stock of the old one (A600 vs A1200).
Saluditos,
Ferrán.

I doubt it. If Amiga Inc win, then its up to Hyperion to compensate them for all the copies they sold. That's their job, not ours.

Would love to purchase stuff from overseas but that would require a credit card I'm guessing? Plus the shipping would be quite high? Will be checking out a few computer boot sales in the future hopefully will try my luck that way :)
-
Oh! too late Hyperion too late sadly :madashell: I`m waiting too much getting work with os4 classic but not happened I sell my bppc 2 months ago.. I hope it will work good for u all survivers :-P u think is over? u`re wrong! the game just began for amiga again :-D
-
@ Ferry, your assumption is wrong.
My point is that the Amiga community was generally involved in wholesale software piracy.
That activity, kills commercial software production.
What effect a lack of software has on a platform I leave to you to decide...
My feelings are that a lack of profit for small software houses, with increasingly decrepit hardware and intransigent "I want it all on my 512k A500" users crippled the Amiga... It ain't dead yet!
-
1 day :D! Sadly i must delay my buy for some days, because my salary arrives only then...

I'm not going to buy a copy of OS4. I have no PPC card anymore and don't plan to buy one back in the future either, unless someone gives me one for free :-)

And Hyperion then has to pay for AI's lawyers as well. I wouldn't be too shocked to see an emergency appeal for relief being filed on the day OS4 goes on sale. Now I do wonder, will this mean Hyperion will pay all those third party devs that were suppost to be paid at OS4 release?

-
I've ordered a copy and i don't even have an Amiga anymore (CDTV and A1200 Tower sold in 2004).
Bought it just because I think Hyperion deserve the support. Maybe if I see an A1200 + PPC on ebay I'll snatch it up.
-
Not only have I pre-ordered this (despite having a fully working A1 too) I've just gone and bought some new toys for my A4000 to celebrate.
Let the good times roll!!! (for once!)
-
I have a nice collection of classic Amiga's also ranging from the 1000 all the way to the A4000T and not one of them has the hardware needed to run OS4.0. Nevertheless I also pre-ordered my copy from Amigakit.
Hopefully someone will come up with a way to either make this version run on other hardware, or create new available hardware that it will run on.

Not for us, the users.

Released on a Friday, so can't see them being sent out until Monday.
Another couple of days after that, before we get our hands on it. :-(

I would have thought from my posting it was obvious that I do get it.
I was just making the point that it will be a few more days until the real fun begins.
Did you not get it?
Relax, it wasn't an attack on anyone.
Did you get out of the wrong side of bed this morning?
-
I know I am going to get flamed for this, but for other than those that have friends who suffered long and hard to create OS4, or those that are lovers of Hyperion (no matter what information has come out in the litigation), why would anyone want to buy OS4 when a very similar product has been available for many months for free?
Does Hyperion deserve my support after all this time and after all the lies (my perception) on both sides of the Amiga Inc. fight?
I just don't understand the fanatic purchases by some that can't even run OS4? :-?
-
I'm not touching this one with a ten foot barge pole. ;-)

maybe i took it wrong but sorry for this it wasnt my intention to irritate anyone. i see now your a little impatient and that is understandable, its aos4.0 after all and the wait have been long for the classic :)

To some it may be seen as some sort of trophy or collectors piece. People collect all sorts of things that they can't or don't use.

but for now i buy it for the cool factor, the collection, the support and i can throw it in the face of the disbelievers and tell them "i told you so".. hahaha... :-D

Agreed! I'm buying it partly as a trophy that says I've been a faithful Amigan for years. Had it never been released I would have felt insulted and made a sucker out of :-)

thank you, that is more of an answer I was looking for. I have no desire to start a "RED" vs "BLUE" fight here. It is just that you must admit that OS4 and MorphOS are VERY similar and one is free, the other is going to cost you.
I have downloaded MorphOS, but have not installed or used it yet, so don't accuse me of being a MorphOS fanboy, I am not. I have seen it demonstrated and it looked nice and fast, so I will probably try it out some time in the next few months, but it is not high on my agenda.
My statement was that I just don't understand the people that are so ........... excited, or dedicated to OS4 even if they don't have the hardware to run it.
You are free to have your opinion and your reasons for wanting OS4, I was just curious as to what some of those reasons might be.

Still not as strange (and funny) as seeing folks repeatedly addressing themselves all the time.

@amigadave
it maybe similar and free but people dont want it, aos4.0 is the successor and that is the whole big thing. aos4.0 cost money but it dont cost an arm or an leg either, its cheap i would say. i hope you get your curiosity satisfied by reading this threat, it have the answers to your question after all...
now back to dreaming of my bought copy of aos4.0 for the classic! :-D
-
morphos and os4:
i'm not interested who is the official successor or else. I wanted to try Morphos classic, but my hw was not supported. (mediator) If hyperion doesn't came with the relase of classic os4, i will surely boght a g-rex or an efika and usig mos now. But hyperion do that, so i chosse to use it. And if i will be happy, and os4 will come for sam. I will be buy that too. But not efika+mos2.0. So if the morphos team was clever, in the past few years Morphos coud be the real amiga platform. I think they missed the opportunity.
Once again morphos seems to be as good as os4, just the avaliablity and marketing...

both are hobby oses and things happen and things changed. morphos is just a cloneos of the old amigaos 3.0, the successor of todays amigaos is aos4.0 and there is where the future is. what you choose is up to you. and elbox will support aos4.0 with drivers for their hw and new ppc cards will come that i dont doubt, but nothing will happen over night, you must give it time. morphos will also benefit from this i think even when its abandoned by its makers, like it is today. enjoy what path you have choosen, dont come here and talk about missed opportunitys, its just a waste...

Very nice packaging, my hats off to them for that. I might even buy it......someday, but not after seeing it work on a system similar to mine. I hope I can see it on a Classic PPC Amiga close to me soon.
Congrats to all of you that have waited sooooooo long. I am happy for all of you and hope it is all you dreamed of. I also hope that it will continue to be developed for years to come.
Please post your reviews of OS4.0 on CSPPC and BPPC here for all of us to read.

If this had been released some time ago, I may have rushed out to buy it, but I think I will wait a while at least to see what people say about it. I never did like the fact with morphos on my setup the reboot process took so long on every reboot (2 reboots each time) - does os4 have a similar behaviour ?
Another thing, with current currency rates, the gbp price is £10 more than the the price from Canada and USA. Why do Brits always pay more?

So somebody hack the thing already and get it running on old Macs. They're cheap as chips -- you can get a used G5 Mac for about the same price as a used 68030 Amiga!

I agree....hack it to the Mac and I'm set to run. I don't think I'll want to pay what an Amiga PPC card might cost...
Bob
-
ok now how about Acube releasing a PPC card for A3000/4000's? lol
-
If it ran on my G4 PowerBook, I would be fighting to be first to buy it. Yes, please somebody release a hack to get it installed and running on PPC Macs. (That would be one way for Hyperion to pay their lawyers, think of how much money Hyperion would get then from selling copies of AOS4.0 and they don't even have to be the ones to release the hack so they are not in even more litigation with AInc.)
-
If it ran on a g4 Powerbook.. watchout sucka! :P I'd be first in line :P
-
Well If you via the PCI socket on the SAM440 and an adaptor for ZorroII/III and the A1200 port, could use the SAM440 as CPU card, then I would buy it, right now...

I wonder if Hyperion ever did an estimate of how many Classic Amiga PPC cards still exist. I have no idea, but I'm guessing may 2500 cards total still in use.
This would obviously be the limit of copies of OS4.0 sold.
(we need new PPC hardware/cards)!

Ok thats it!! i will order my copy now... :madashell:

Forcast in hell: snow. ;-)
You gotta love how they dropped the Escom logo. No sense in ACube risking a trademark suit, I suppose.

Is it as fast as the version of MorphOS that I installed around 6 years ago? I almost hope not.
It went crash-reboot-crash-reboot-crash-reboot-crash-reboot so fast my hard drive went up in smoke. At least, I always blamed MorphOS and that's why I never tried it again. It could be that the 2 year old IBM hard drive was ready to fry regardless.. Much of my software under development was lost that day and I gave up coding for a long time. Of course, it's really all my fault for not backing up anyway...
Up until the crash, the speed of MorphOS was great.

This is like torture. You lucky b*stards with PPC cards!

I wonder what the reason is that AmigaKit doesn't have my copy yet? This is killing me. I am waiting for the email six months from now saying "oh sorry, we still don't have this, would you like to keep waiting?" like other Amiga dealers.....
-
ACube have sent the stock from Italy to us (last week).
The arrival of the stock is imminent. This week, we will be processing preorders of AmigaOS 4.0 Classic (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=764) in the order that customers have paid for them over the last few days.
-
8-) Thanks for letting us know

You had you chance :-P Instead of buying that CSMKII you could have had a BPPC on your old amiga 1200 but it aint as fun i gues .. Me for one always wanted a bigbox too but fokused on the cheap ppc acc boards instead.Hence i luckily have a BPPC but would like a spare....

A BPPC would have cost me *much* more than my MKIII, and would have been way out of my price range.

Acdc - Are You Ready
Are you ready
Are you ready
Are you ready
Are you ready
Sweet apple pie
Standing in the street
Hands outta line
Looking for some meat (heat?)
She take you high
When you feel her sting
She make you fly
And you know you're coming
Who all need it - who
Who all need it - you
Who all need it, who all need it (yes you do)
You all breathe it, we all need it
Are you ready for a good time
Then get ready for the night line
Are you ready for a good time
Then get ready for the night line
Are you ready for a good time
She making eyes
At everything she meet
ain't it a crime
When she make you pump heat
She make you fly
Because that's her thing
She make you dry
And you know you're broken in
Who all need it, who all need it
(yes you do)
You all breathe it, we all need it
Are you ready for a good time
Then get ready for the night line
Are you ready for a good time
Then get ready for the night line
Are you ready for a good time
Get with it
Who all need it, who all need it
You all breathe it, we all breathe it
Are you ready for a good time
Then get ready for the night line
Are you ready for a good time
Are you ready for a good time
Are you ready
Are you ready for a good time
I want a good time
Are you ready for a good time
Are you, are you ready
Are you ready for a good time
Good, good, good, good time
Are you ready for a good time
Are you ready, ready, ready
Are you ready for a good time

I'm tempted to actually go back and sing that song now :-D

Some orders are now shipped and will start arriving from tomorrow.

@Amigakit
I supose mine has not been shipped yet, I've no confirmation email yet :-(
D.
-
We'll process it in the shortly for you :-)
-
Ah, the frustration...
Guess what, I have the hardware... Too bad I don't have the money for the OS. I just can't afford spending 90 euros + shipping for such an expensive product -- which I already paid half of it a long time ago (folks, NEVER preorder anything Amiga related, that's a lesson I learnt the hard way).
That means, unfortunately, no OS4 for my PPC anytime soon.
-
I have readed all the posts on this forum and my conclusion
is good:The OS 4.0 comunity will grow and this comunity is very die hard.
On the other hand good luck to all of the new OS 4.0
users with classics and as someone has said hope to see OS 4.0 on SAM 440 or on another PPC card for A1200/A3000/A4000. :-D :-P :pint:  :pancake:
