Title: Can someone supply me with an OS 3.9 emergency disk?
Post by: RMK305 on November 26, 2007, 08:21:15 PM
Hi,

Please bear with me here, as this may get long winded.

I registered here a while ago and have been out of the Amiga scene for a couple of years after buying a whole load of upgrades because I could not get OS 3.9 installed correctly after trying it every night for about 3 weeks. I just got so scunnerd with it.

I  was trying to setup a 4.3 gig drive which I believe you can do with 3.9 with no problems? System partition worked fine and the other 3 always showed on the desktop but would not let you write or view them without the system hanging. I assume it was omething to do with a file system issue from the emergency disk I created from a harddrive I got with a machine someone else had hacked about with.

If someone has a bare bones emergency disk with no issues could you be so kind as to e-mail the files to me so I can put them on an Amiga disk using cross dos? If so my e-mail address is: robert.mk@ntlworld.com

I used to love the Amiga and want to get this A4000 setup and working as I have a CV64 3D and a Warp Engine 040@40MHz with about 90mb on it if I remember correctly. It's a shame I can't use it!!! If I cn get this machine working properly I would like to get it on the internet at sometime too.

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks,

Robert.

P.S. The drive is an ide.
Also have a couple of A500s and a 1200.

Hi,

I can't send any Emergency-disk to you at the moment, but please post again if nobody else does.

I did E-mail him my Emergency-Disk as an ADF file last night. It should work if he has an IDE hard drive as master and an IDE CDrom as slave on the same IDE lead.

It will boot into 'PAL Hi Res' screenmode :pint:

Thanks A4000 Mad, I got the file. Not heard of the file format before but will try and figure it out. I have my hard drive and CD setup as you described and have put the file onto a CD on the PC to take up to the Amiga.

I managed to get a couple of free night and after remembering a few things about the Amiga I seem to have got it working with the disk you supplied. Thank you very much for your help...

...but I can get the CDROM to work when I then boot from the hard drive. Can someone explain how to setup the CDROM? Once that's done I'll install the 2 boing bags which I have on a CD and then my GFX card software.

Thanks,

Robert

You're very welcome :-)

My initial thought is that you should be able to get everything you need to get your CDrom to work from the Emergency-Disk (seeing as that gets it working ok)

The driver CD1 is in Devs/DOSDrivers of the floppy.

IDEfix files are in C of the floppy.

The CD filesystem is in L of the floppy.

Going from memory your HDD startup-sequence in Workbench:S will also need the lines:-

If exists C:IDEfix
C:IDEfix
End IF

In order to install the CD drivers on your hard drive, you may  just boot from the Emergency-disk then install the CD using an option of the OS 3.9 installer menu.  But when I did that recently, I had to switch the Amiga off then on afterwards, perhaps because OS 3.9's ROM update was required but not completed by resets only, which nobody has confirmed to me in the thread I started a few weeks ago about that issue.

Prehaps the people here are unable to confirm it for you mate. I would if I could but I can't so I won't :-(

Of course.  I meant in other words that I can't affirm that installing the CD drive using the OS installer must be enough, as I don't know why I had to switch the computer off in order to make it work.
