Title: What am I supposed to buy.
Post by: whabang on November 24, 2007, 11:36:56 AM
Being single and all, I have loads of money to spend on a present for myself this Christmas (well, not really, but I can now live on noodles for a month, in order to fund computer hardware), and I am considering to get an Amiga again.

I've been looking around on the net, and there are some NOS A1200's out there, and I could always get a used one they run out.
However, there's also the new minimig, not to mention the Efka, the A1, and Pegasus. HELP! I can't decide!

:-D

Give your money to me and I'll spend it ;-)

Why not get an A1200 or an A4000 and if your budget will allow it, a PPC card, so you can use OS4 :-)

i wonder if i could get the wife and kids to live on noodles for a month :-D  i could, it would help with this spare tire i am slowly inflating.

we would probably find something else to spend the money on though.

There is a nice A3000T on ebay (USA) who will post internationally. It looks nice too.

Before doing this ask yourself what you would like to do with it.

If you just want it for games then an old A500 might suffice or a cheap plain and standard A1200.

If you want to do some serious gaming then you might want a A1200 with an expansion card like a Blizzard1230 for those games that run a little slowly on unexpanded boxes.

If however you're thinking of getting one for OS4... then you're bonkers :-D but that's probably incurable, so I'd say A1200+BPPC+BVision or an A4000+CSPPC.

Obviously I started that list at the least expensive and worked up!

Dear Friend:

I have an amiga 1200 desktop...and it has been wonderful for me. I have an accelerator 030/50 mhz + 16mb ram.
Is good enough to run aladdin 4d (3d animation)and amos professional (programming).I can also use many other great utilities, like Octamed (music). I had this amiga for many years..and i really love it, I will never part with it.
Actually...I had it for more than 10 years...it never gave me problems. The 3d render is slow..but the quality of the graphics is amazing. Amospro is really good...If you learn it, you can make your own amiga games...and is really easy to learn. The amiga 1200 is a great machine...Is what I use.Hope this helps.

I'm considering an 1200 with a memory expansion. I'm mostly going to use it for playing games, and possibly some music production in Octamed, so I won't be needing any CPU power worth mentioning.

I own several amiga's an amiga1200 an amiga4000 with ppc and soon OS4 and a pegasos.
If I had to sell it and buy me something back it would be the pegasos2.
It run's almost every old software(68k) and it run's uae nicely,plays mp3,video.
It has most value for money me think and it's quite new still compared to amiga's..so less likely to fail.

A Pegasos is considered an Amiga?
