Title: AfA how well will it run on my system?
Post by: AmiBoy on November 21, 2007, 02:02:15 PM
I really like the look of AfA but I am wondering how well it will run on my Classic 1200 system?

Specs are:

A1200
Mediator PCI (4-port)
OS3.9 BB1 & BB2
Apollo 68060 @ 66 MHz
64MB Ram
Voodoo 3 3000 16MB
Soundblaster 4.1
TV Card
10/100Mbit Ethernet
9.5 GIG HD
52x CDRom

I dont currently run Birdie or VP (as I can not get them working properly).

Will there be any slow down to my system?

There will almost certainly be *some* slowdown when running the level of eye-candy that AfA delivers -- 32bit DualPNG & OS4 icons, skinning, antialiased fonts, etc.

However, your system sounds like just about the fastest bit of "classic 68k" hardware possible -- so give it a try!

It's easy enough to remove if you don't like it (just remove the command from your Startup-sequence).

AfA on an 060 will perform really well. I'm using it on my A4000 (see sig) and the performance is great.

That's a pretty tasty looking screenshot Ken - I'm really going to have to try the new AfA-OS at some point!

Cheers,

@ klesterjr & moto

Thanks for the info.

@A4000_Mad

Thanks mate! But I would probably trade it all in for a decent A1 system (or a decent A4000 system!)

I think ill give it a try when I get home tonight

Why not just try it ? And better keep your classic IMHO.

On my 060/50 I dont feel big slowdown, and it looks really smooth.

Thanks, in part, to you ;-)

i think you get better results, when you use UAE on your aone ;-)

You can use graphiccard.

the system specs to use all features in usefull speed is a a 040/25 gfx card and 16 MB ram.

when i switch on my system JIT off, i get that 040/25 speed.

On 8 bit screens the new skin system is switch off.
It is also faster in AFA to use 16 or 32bit workbench, because icon display use no palette.

On 8 bit screens the most time does it cost to remap the icons to the current palette

Does AfA os (4.1) support DualPNG on AGA screens?

I know it'll be slow, I just want to set up a simple "playbox" with nice whdload icons...

Like using 256 color icons on a 4 color screen, that doesn't make a whole heap of sense to me...
