The long battle between the AC power distribution, advocated by Tesla and DC power distribution, advocated by Edison, has ended.
Con Ed will now only provide alternating current. (http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/11/14/off-goes-the-power-current-started-by-thomas-edison/)

Wow. I guess that's one of those 'only in America' phenomena. I had no idea DC main supply had existed for so long. I had thought AC supplies would have phased out DC long ago. Hahah hehe, I made a funny. ooohhhh, sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself.

A Manhattan Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan) phenomena, for the rest of the country and the other boroughs of New York, DC power distribution was impractical. Edison did invent the electric chair (http://inventors.about.com/od/hstartinventions/a/Electric_Chair.htm) to show the danger of AC power distribution.

Yeah, thanks metalman. I know it was not the norm. That power station is quite the interesting relic.
