Title: A busboard into A1200 desktop case
Post by: Protek on November 19, 2007, 09:25:56 AM
Is there any busboards available for the original A1200 desktop case or has anyone made a cable for a busboard that it can put in an outsided casing?

No

There is no busboard for the desktop A1200. The AteoBus used to hang off a cable, so you might have been able to run it in an outside casing. But I doubt this would work with PCI, since cable length would mess with the bus timings.

that would be a really nice idea!

to have very slim pci expansion with side mounted minipcibut only one would fit for video sound or ethernet

you would have to cut a hole in back desktop case. Im qiute sure that a small pci card would fit inside like without the backplane etc.

Some PCI card will work with cabled connection as some graphics cards have cabling on the actual output anyway like bit cable for the vga d-sub etc.

A cable on the output is nothing like trying to connect the PCI card to the bus (or the bus to the motherboard) on an extension cable. The PCI bus requires the cards connected to it to run at a particular speed. Separating the cards from the bus or the bus from the motherboard with a cable will mess with those timings and break the bus.
