Hi,
I'm selling a G-Rex 4000D for Amiga 4000. It's listed on ebay, as I simply haven't got the time to handle "bids" if I should sell it here.
All you people wanting it know what it is. I guess it's time for a early christmas present :-D
Have a look here (http://tinyurl.com/2knh52).
-
This should go for a (very) pretty penny.
-
Why do things like this always go up for sale when I'm broke? :getmad:
-
If you want it bad enough you'll find the cash for it ;-)
Just as a notice; special payments can be accepted from amiga.org members, but nothing will be sent before full amount has been paid.
@adolescent
I hope so :-)
-
Yeah, I'm sure I could divert some funds from the mortgage...
-
Is this such a desirable piece of hardware considering it is not supported by OS4?
-
Depends; are rare items desirable or not?
Having tried both G-Rex and Mediator, I can say that the G-Rex is the fastest of the two. So if you want speed, the G-Rex is the way to go.
Let's not forget that the G-Rex is supported by MorphOS :-)
-
Put it this way, I shall be bidding. I know that I wont be the winner as I dont value my Amiga experience anywhere as near as high as others, but I will have a go.
-
@alexh
Bid away, maybe you will be surprised what the outcome will be :-)
-
If I can collect on a couple of big-ticket invoices this week, I'll be bidding for sure.
On a political rant, at this point I could give two shyts about OS4, or anything Amiga-sanctioned (maybe a bad choice of wording considering the law suit?)
I see a lot of stuff done for MorphOS, and I appreciate the boost in hardware speed. So that's probably the route I want to go.
Of course, I have a CSMKII and I don't have a working PPC accelerator, anyway, so all this conjecture is purely academic.
I like that the GRex has a video slot, whereas the Mediator does not. This is irrelevant is I want to use a PCI video card, as it's virtually impossible to get hold of an AGA video slot FF/SD, let alone one with pass-through. But I may just stick with my PIV and use the PCI slots for sound, network, and USB.
Assuming I win, of course ;)
-
Out of interest, what is the reserve?
-
Why didn't you wait a bit too see if it eventually gets support in OS4.
-
@nBit7
no docs, no support. If someone could reverse engineer it, create a Linux drivers as proof that it works and provide docs, then a driver may be possible.
If someone has a grex4000 and wants to try out he could take a look at the CVPPC registers used in linux APUS.
-
Will a Cyberstorm MKII work with this item?

No, only Cyberstorm MK III and CSPPC cards have the local expansion bus that is needed.
-
@alexh
The reserve is at 150 UKP, which I think is fairly reasonable.
-
Errrr, I meant MKIII. I have an MKIII :) My preview button didn't work.
-
Let's not forget that the G-Rex is supported by MorphOS :-)
...but not OS4 & thereby making your Expensive PPC card a waste of space & the Amiga not really running as an Amiga! I'll ask the G-Rex boys if they will patch it. :idea:

I wouldn't call it a waste, since MorphOS is a full PPC OS and there is a wide selection of software available for MorphOS. MorphOS is available now, OS4 isn't. Hopefully that situation will change soon (at least according to the news lately).
-
Just curious but why are you selling the Grex? Is it because of OS4?
-
The main reason to sell a GREX is cos your CSMKIII or CSPPC has died. Is that the case?
-
Heh.....this is gunno be fun.........
-
Well Kin-Hell did you ask the Grex guys?
-
@Flashlab
Because the computer it sits in isn't getting used, and I have a spare zorro graphics and ethernet card, so I can build a working and useable spare machine with these parts. I figured I could just as well sell it then.
The two CSPPCs are still going strong.
-
Wouldn't you just want the fastest solution for the machines you still use?
-
Yes, but that would mean I would have to use the ugliest computer I have. Time is short so I haven't got the time to make it look good; the one I use the most is already good looking ;-)
There is always pros and cons, and also in this situation. I decided to sell the G-Rex, and in a years time or less I might regret it. That's life, but life goes on, with or without a G-Rex.
Anyway, there is a reason why I have set a reserve price. If it doesn't sell, I'll most likely find the time to make the computer look good eventually.
-
I was just curious but you're going to sell that Grex anyway now. I guess it will reach the 150 easily!
-
being a G-Rex4000D owner, I can vouch for it's greatness! it's only "flaw" is lack of support for OS4.
I still cannot understand why, do the MOS people get docs and the OS4 ones got screwed?
anyways, it is by far the best replacement busboard, and remember, it has a videoslot! :-D :-D :-D
-
:bump:
3 days till the auction ends. Don't forget to bid :-D
-
The last one of these I watched went for some insane amount like $600 or $800. This is going to be good, but will put me out:-D.
Jeff
-
Hehe, DocQ don't worry, all snipers are watching closely I think. can you still see how many people are watching your action?
-

Yeah m8y...I did 4 days ago & haven't heard a thing yet?
-
Got a Grex 4000D now! I bought the one on Amigaworld Classifieds.
Good luck with the auction, DoctorQ. I won't bid because I only have one Amiga ;-).
-
@Flashlab
Congratulation, I think it's a steal for the price it was offered for.
-
Yep it was a very sharp price. Glad I stumbled over that ad!
-
Well, I'm not :-D
-
:lol:
But you'll sell yours anyway for a good price I think.
-
:bump:
Less than 8 hours to go. Good luck to those who are bidding.
-
I have a feelin it will make the most money in the last 2 seconds.
-
Yep, it's gonna be a total snipefest!
-
@keropi
"I still cannot understand why, do the MOS people get docs and the OS4 ones got screwed?"
because the "MOS people" are ex Phase5 guys (part of them now BPlan ... genesi ... and DCE "friends" as well)? ;-)
-
d'oh I fell asleep and missed it.
£205 was lower than I expected.
-
Yeah I was expecting some major sniping but nothing happened. At least this will silence some people that say that everything on eBay is too expensive.
-
%@$* !
....Thats all it went for?? Thats two of those things this week I've missed. :madashell:
-
@DoctorQ,
Did an A.org member win?
