Hey everybody.
I'm looking for a good program to use with the Amiga. I'm interested in something that has a FruityLoops feel to it. Not so much recording as just playing and sequencing. Any suggestions?

Bars N Pipes, Dr. Ts, Tiger

Hi
When you say FruityLoops, do you mean the current FLStudio series, or the older step sequencer style? If you want a step style sequencer, you may like Octamed.
I think for more modern style sequencers, BarsNPipes is probably the most popular, and still has a reasonable user base. I think there is a Yahoo Groups community for it, and there is a handy 3 bank x 16 channel midi interface available for it. I believe Bars N Pipes is also free software now.
I always prefered Music-X 2, as I found it more intuitive. It's not so easy to get more than 16 midi channels with it, though.

I use FL Studio 6. I'm not going to use the Amiga for more synth-y stuff (I bought Arturia Moog and Minimoog, as well as some other hard core things, including QuadraSID, not as good as my 128 but still fun.)
Check out my myspace - myspace.com/m0dul4r
That's a good example of what I am trying to do.
But thanks for the help!

Hey:-)
I use Radium Midi sequencer everyday.
Its a free sequencer with the tracker concept and
using a stretch and bend on a graphics line to add effects.
U have to try it yourself.
ps. it does not support samples
It supports a quadra midi interface
I use a triple play midi interface.
It is coded by the man who cave us the NSM pluggin system for octamed soundstudio

OctaMED
or
HD-Rec.
Depending on how powerful your amiga is, this programme is excellent:

Complete workstation. Lovely.

Well there is nothing like fruity loops... But Octamed is a fantastic tracker! I was using it only a few weeks ago in the studio running in UAE on my MacBook Pro!

I'll be purchasing an Amiga1200 soon, so I don't think processing power will be an issue.
I have heard of OctaMED, but is it now freeware or public domain or what?

If it's a bare A1200, you can pretty much forget HD-Rec.

It's free for download - OctaMED SounStudio, version 1.03c, iirc - don't have the link right now, sorry.

I am just getting into Bars N Pipes and it seems to be a very capable sequencer..I forgot where I downloaded the full working version (legally!)but you can just do a quick google search for it

You can get B&P from me....there are a series of other links here too, hopefully not all dead (but let me know if so....

Where can you get a multiport MIDI-interface nowadays?
In my experience it is difficult to use more than 16 channels with any Amiga-sequencer since both Bars'nPipes and Music-X support multiple banks of 16 channels, but compatible hardware was never really big-scale and has only become more scarce.
Where should I look? Is there a DIY-solder-solution?
There used to be a professional 4x16ch interface from the same company that offered Musix-X itself. I think it was called the Pro-X or something similar. It also hat SMPTE-sync connectors.

there doesn't seem to be a system requirements page anywhere for hd rec?

About as close to Fruity loops as an Amiga will go
Seems kind of weird that this software is only known by C64 users and not Amiga users
Anyway its very very cool

I think there are schematics to built your own Triple-Play-Plus MIDI interface on Alfred Faust's web-site. Also probably on Aminet. I don't think it's overly complicated if you know how to order components online and can use a soldering iron.

I have been using Bars&pipes for 16 years and I still use it.Ihave 1,000's of midi files.Do you know any way to convert them to a standard midi file,so I can export them to a modern workstation?
-
The SMERFF accessory for Bars & Pipes will import/export standard MIDI files. If you have a problem with it, then download the latest bugfixed version from Alfred Faust's website.

@Flexinoodl
OTF looks pretty good. Do you know whether the rack of instruments on the screenshot is pre-defined, or whether it is built up by the user and can therefore be added to with extra instruments in the rack?

Is there a way to batch convert midi files from bars & pipes?

Thilo never (AFAIK) posted min. requirements but if you have a PPC machine you should be OK. Anything less than an 060 will struggle, I'd imagine.

I used to use Octamed sound studio for sequencing and sample play back, its the most intuitaive tracker style programme there is which does this on the Amiga wich handle samples and sequencing.
Otherwise I am now using my old Amiga mods in Madtracker, converting them to fast tracker with Modplug. Music X did alot that I needed for basic midi stuff. By far one of the best music programmes which never got them coverage it deserved was musicline editor just because of chipstyle tunes on a GRAND scale. The Amiga was made for this stuff!
Happy sequencing!

If you're converting from OctaMED Soundstudio 1.03c to FastTracker II, use MED2XM (http://aminet.net/search?query=med2xm) on the Amiga side instead of ModPlug on the PC side. ModPlug's routines sometimes get the finetuning of the instruments way wrong.
