Title: Web cache?
Post by: AMIBY on November 13, 2007, 02:37:32 PM
Hi,

Here is the deal:
Is there a way to use a PC to daily load several web pages and store then locally for an Amiga and another PC to view?
A buddy of mine has dial-up and he was complaining about how long it took to wiev web pages. I was surprised to hear that he can only get dial up in the area he lives.
Cheers

You need to install a offload proxy to the PC and make the PC and amiga browsers use the PC as a proxy.

After quick googling, http://www.proxy-offline-browser.com/ might do it, however I dunno if only the proxy side needs java (hopefully so).

Linux gurus prolly set up a squid for the purpose.

Any experience with Microsoft ISA Server?
Can Windows Vista be used as a proxy server?
How about a stock A1200, could it be used as a (fast) proxy server?

EDIT:
I have not looked at Squid yet, do you know if it can download web pages like at 10pm everyday?
