Title: Power Computing & Viper boards
Post by: Vincent on July 13, 2003, 08:40:01 PM
As many of you know Power Computing had three A1200 Viper accelerators on their site (040/25, 040/50 and 060/50).  I ordered on at the end of May (they were meant to be getting them around the middle of May).

Anyone else order one?  Or does anyone know what's going on with the boards?  The reason I'm asking follows..... (if you can be bothered to read on ;-) )

:-? In the middle of June I hadn't herd anything from them, so I decided to email them and see what the delays were.  After two mails to them they replied saying they were expecting them in the next week (16th) :-D

:-? By the first week of July I still hadn't heard anything and had noticed that the prices for the cards had gone up according to the site, so I mailed them again asking if there were more delays and how much notice I should give them for changing my address details (I'm moving next month).  They answered the moving question, but not the delays one.  So, I just waited again :-x

:-? Two weeks ago the Vipers were completely removed from the site.  So, I mailed them again asking if there were more delays or if there were other unexpected problems with the boards.  I'm still waiting for a reply  :-x

I've tried phoning them, but everytime I phone I either get the engaged tone, or it just keeps on ringing.  I even let it ring for over 5 minutes and there was no answer.  I know it's the right number because it's the one I had to phone just before Christmas to find out they didn't have Directory Opus 5 Magellan II when they couldn't be bothered to tell me they didn't have any and weren't going to get anymore in stock :-x

If anyone has any ideas please tell me.  I really want that 060/50 :-)

They have never been the best at delivering  i always prefered eyetech due to how fast and reliable they were .you should ring power computing and you might get a better answer or you might get one of there rude staff with a bad atitude I know power computing stock some stuff that eyetech dont and they sell the mediators.060s on ebay are fetching 170 pound but if you have to get one seconhand try amibench you will find one there for about 60 to 70 pound. :-?  :-)

Well I have a problem with power computing too. I made the mistake to order a Magic Pack from them.

Not only were there delays (It wasn't on stock and they didn't notify me until I mailed them) but when I finally got it, it was damaged. They said they would send a replacement motherboard but I'm still waiting for it. It seems I'll be waiting for a long time (actually for ever) unless I do something about it.

One thing's for sure. I'm not buying from them again  :-)

But . . .have you payed in advance or by credit card?

If not, i suggest you (and ALL) to buy items "cash on delivery" always :-)

Ciao

The good thing is they won't charge the credit card until they send it out, thankfully.  It's still a pain in the arse tho.

You could try to buy the Viper 060/50 from Vesalia. It's a German company.

I was thinking about that, but I may be able to pick up an 040 (possibly a full A1200/040 system) quite cheap from someone I know.  I'll see what happens with that first.

I ordered 060/56 from Vesalia a little over week ago.. Haven't received any confirmation or anything else from them yet.. Earlier when I asked them why it's 56MHz they answered in less than a day.

Unfortunately is the Viper 1260 accelerator card not available.
It might take another week or two before we will have it here.

I take it that's your reply from Vesalia?  I hope your week isn't as long as my week ;-)

It's kinda good news for me, it means that it's not Power's fault, but they still could be more helpfull about it instead of dancing around the questions.

Let me know of anymore developments and I'll do the same :-)

personally i have never had much problems from power computing at all i have purchased things from them in the past and i have always found delivery times reasonable but this sounds quite serious, as they seem to be avoiding you  :-?  i'd keep trying to get in touch, if you have already paid then this could turn into a serious issue  :-(

Power Computing are a good company.  They have not billed me for the Viper yet, and I really don't think they will until they send it out.

I'm about to email Power about the Viper I ordered explaining what fragment has said.  Hopefully I'll get good news :-)

btw, it's not a serious issue now, it's just really annoying.

I have also bought some stuff at Power Computing. I bought an Mirage 4000 Pro Tower, and a original A4000 keyboard, at least I thought.

The things came quick, but when I opened the box I found a A2000 keyboard :-( (Hopefully the Mirage tower was the right thing...)

I mailed them once about this mistake...No reply... I wrote them once more...Still no reply...

After writing several email to them about the A4000 keyboard, I finally got an answer. They told me that they would send me the adaptor so I could use the A2000 keyboard in my A4000. Yeah stupid, I want to get what I paid for!!!

It has been the only reply I have gotten from them, eventhough I mailed them several times, because I rather would like to have the A4000 key instead of A2000 key. The don't write me back, so they lost a customer there.

Due to their poor support, or should I say no support at all, I will newer purchase any more things at their shop. I would rather do my trading in Germany.

I hope people would see this as a warning of Power Computing. If you need support for the things you buy, you don't get any!
