Title: X-Amiga & VMWare
Post by: TheMagicM on November 10, 2007, 03:51:52 PM
anyone tried it?  I cant seem to get the installer to find a device.  I used gparted (not the one included w/xamiga) to create a partition but xamiga cannot find any devices.

The installer uses fdisk (or sfdisk?) to locate partitions.

Worked OK when I tried it in qemu...

(For VMware) you need to run GPartEd (it's in the menus on the graphical installer) and set up the drive as MSDOS partitions, a Linux swap partition and at least one standard Linux partition (ext2 or ext3).

The installer should then be pretty straight-forward, but I haven't managed to get GRUB to boot yet, and I had to focus my attention on final exams, so haven't got back to it.

If you make any progress, let us know?

thats the problem, the installer doesnt see any devices (hard drives) so gparted doesnt find anything.

Download: Smooth using FDM

Unpack ISO: Smooth using Nero 6.6 Suite

Boot CD: Smooth. Impressive graphic install enterface :D

Read files off USB Pen Drive: nothing doing

Read files off CDROM: nothing doing

Ok, I know it got installed.  Couldn't set up GRUB to boot but. . .

I had to reinstall my Debian Linux to try copying files the manual way but Xamiga wouldn't give me access.  However when GRUB reinstalled it picked up on my XAmiga installation and added that automagically (am using "Etch" distribution).

Now I can boot but I can't go on.

* Tried 'mc' command but Midnight Commander won't let me access CDROM or USB

* Tried access from shell to copy files but shell plays dumb.

Instructions on setting up X-Amiga on qemu are now on the website.

Look for the FAQ page (it doesn't appear on the home page yet! Just go to any other page, you'll see the link at the bottom...)

I don't have vmware, so can't really help much. As for this infuriating GRUB issue - there's a fix for that on the website too, just hope it works for everyone.
