It has been made quite clear that these screenshots don't
represent the final look.
But towards the actual release of AOS4, we will want to
have some sort of nice "standard" setup. I'm sure the AOS
GUI developers are good at what they do. But this is an
aspect that differs widely from user to user (hence
configurability, but we need some common scheme too,
to present at shows, and historically the old Workbench
>1.3 were always very dull without some extra work...)
Why not, when the interface-look itself is ready, give the
community a mockup of the OS (on a webpage) with a list
of the possible gadgets, so that we can cut&paste and
suggest our favourite colours/gadgets to use as a standard
for the final release. Who else to be allow input on this
matter other than us, the community after all - and a nice
possible PR-stunt for AInc ('chosen by the people' and all
that).
Well, it's an idea anyway,

yup...

Nice, but this a PURE mockup, is it not? Nothing to do with
how AOS4 will actually be finalized, but a dream-version of
it (and a nice one by all means).
I was referring to being able to actually suggest which
ACTUAL setup were to be used for the final release, by
modifying a picture on-line, using components known to ACTUALLY BE in the release.
We have so many graphically talented people in this community,
it would be a good opportunity for AInc to arrange this,
I think.

They have tried this already with the "I am Amiga" club and were shot down in flames. I think that AInc will be moaned at if they get a professional, an good Amiga artist or Tim, Dick and Harry.
I'm sure that they are aware of the need for an "out-of-the-box" look, and will get one as soon as OS4 is ready to go

Well actually ne_one and another famous Amigan are working on bringing this to reality in the near future, so don't throw in the towel just yet! I think it's the best mockup of WB thus far!!!
-
Yeah, I agree, that mockup design looks incredible :-D
-
I like the pic, but there's one problem in it.
Netscape is Bunk!!!
I would like to see one of the much smaller coded browser to be ported to Amiga.
Before you can even use Netscape, you have to give them a summary on your whole life.
It also is so huge that it is molasses like.
Need a fastttt, smallll, and nice browser.
-
Just bring over Mozilla/Phoenix!

It's not the same thing. Leave the actual design for the pros, by all means.
I was talking about the community having a say on which combination
of the already implemented configuration options were
to be chosen as the "default" one.

Hi guys, we're having a similar chat on ann.
After the screen shots posted by hyperion I decided to try and design a simple AOS4 GUI theme that could be implimented using the GUI prefs. I spent a while musing over the screenshots to make sure all the settings required to make this GUI are possible.
Not the most exciting but it is implimentable!
I drew the icons - if anyone wants them give me a shout (or cut them out of the pic)! :-)
CnlPepper - Not as happy with his work as when when he finished it...
-
The new screenshots are fine by me.
They were just showing you different features about the new GUI.
They were not entering a pretty GUI contest.
They have done an exellent Job.
applaud!!!
applaud!!!
Standing room only!!!
hehe :-D
-
Why not just wait for the release? I'm sure they will como up with something nice. After that, people can look at the standard and up load themes, etc.. to Aminet.
-
Amigamac's mockup is beautiful!! I want my OS4 to look like that :-D

As others have pointed out, the mockup assumes some underlying GUI elements that likely won't appear until OS4+ but we'll certainly offer to help out with any skins. Has anyone officially commented on whether the prefs tools are PPC-native or will skinning be possible under 3.9 as well?
SlimJim's suggestion is a good one, but I'm not sure that dialog will get us anywhere. What we really could use is a site that would allow us to share information on the process and upload/download various skins.

@CnlPepper
Hey, not bad! We definitely need to avoid using serif fonts, that's one point that I'll add to the suggestion list.
Also, what about support for hotkey acceleration? And why do buttons in dialogs always appear fully justified along the bottom instead of equidistantly spaced and in the middle? Yuck. :-P
