hi,
I have been out of the Amiga game for some time, and since I last used my amiga the big bad world has produced many nasties to attack our little darlings. (amigas, not children). So what I want to know is, is there any realy threat today from the virus world or have they moved away to spam and fiche the PC world, leaving us in peace.
I never had a virus checker installed on my Amiga, should I get one? is there one?
Cheers
Andy

There are no new viruses being made, however that doesn't mean that all the old nasties would have disappeared all the sudden.
So I'd recommend using xvs.library (http://www.vht-dk.dk/vhtdk/amiga/xvs/xvs.htm) and VirusZ (http://www.vht-dk.dk/vhtdk/amiga/vz/vz.htm).

Most viruses only affect Kickstart 1.3 or older and don't even function on Kickstart 2.
There are some Virus checkers, though. I don't know where to point you to to get VirusZ but that is one of the best and AFAIK is free nowadays.

Aminet is fairly safe, all uploads are scanned for viruses.
I'd be more concerned about some more "esoteric" sources... ;-)
