As our IRC regulars may have noticed, the network has been missing in action for a couple of days, even the website (http://www.zirc.org/) appears to be gone.
As a consequence, we have moved the channels to synIRC (http://synirc.net/).
Connect to:
eu.synirc.net if you're in Europe
or
us.synirc.net if you're in the Americas
or
irc.synirc.net if you're somewhere else or don't know where you are :-D
or
use the CGI web thing (http://cgiirc.synirc.net/cgi-bin/cgiirc/irc.cgi?chan=%23amiga.org), substituting SynGuestXXX for your desired nick name.
We're sorry for the inconvenience.
--Update--
Apparently ZiRC is back.
Oh well, they can't expect users to stick with them when they apparently don't care enough about us to at least leave a message on a website or something.

I was wondering why I had been unable to access zirc.
Glad to see the channel is back :)

It was it the air already, zirc's been deteriorating for a while now.

As odin says, the network had been deteriorating for a while. Nothing to do with us moving there, honest. A few months back many of the servers which made up the ZiRC network (including all the european ones) pulled out and formed synIRC (http://synirc.net). This was due to some disagreement between the Sysops and the ZiRC founder. In fact I believe this left ZiRC with just one server - now down.
I assume we'll be going back if/when the server comes back online? If not then we'll definitely be staying with synIRC - which is essentially the network we used to use (but for one server), with a different name.

Nah, seems a bit pointless now that we've done all the work to move.
Also, sounds like el presidente finally approves:
should i post it as a permanent or temporary thing?
permament, no use going back there

Must update my client for the new place before i forget where it is again. Cheers.

Did you even get to visit us on ZiRC? Seems like only yesterday we were on WebCrap... :-)

I think it would be a good idea for amiga.org to host their own irc server like amigaworld does.
Then you will have full control..
-
Or we could just move to the AW.net network.. :sealed:.

hmmm...that explains why it was so empty...

Yeah, i did briefly.

Or we could just move to the AW.net network.. .
Or irc.freenode.org or irc.accessirc.net would be decent networks if this latest one does not work out.

Just another bump for the benefit of our weekend chatters and those we lost in the transition. We also welcome new users to come and join the channel. Find us at #amiga.org on irc.synirc.net :-D
If you don't already have an IRC client installed, follow these instructions (http://www.amiga.org/livechat.php), substituting irc.zirc.org with irc.synirc.net (unless the instructions have been updated in the meantime.) There is also a rather good CGI client (http://cgiirc.synirc.net/cgi-bin/cgiirc/irc.cgi?chan=%23amiga.org) if your browser supports it.
synIRC has some stats (http://stats.synirc.net/phpdenora/?m=c&p=status&chan=%23amiga.org) for our channel on their site.
One last thing. Although #amiga.org is often quite general chat, there's also a #coffeehouse for when it's needed. You're all welcome to lurk there too.

Just to clear up some possible misunderstandings:
The channels have moved to irc.synirc.net as mentioned previously in this thread, and not back to ZiRC. The ZiRC channels are no longer in use by us, but one seems to have been snatched up by this guy (http://www.amiga.org/userinfo.php?uid=17015), who has never been affiliated with our channels. Maybe he thought it was funny, I don't know. But it's not the Amiga.org channel, anyway.
To add to the confusion, the powers that be (of this web site) apparently haven't deemed it necessary to update the IRC info page (http://www.amiga.org/livechat.php) to reflect this change, we have asked them, and it hasn't happened, but that is out of our (the IRC staff) hands, and we're sorry about that. But the guides should still work, provided you replace instances of zirc.org with synirc.net.
Alternative servers can be found at synIRC (http://www.synirc.net/servers/) and some miscellaneous info here (http://ajk.daug.net/amiga/).
For any other questions, click Web Interface in the left side menu under Join Us For Live Chats! or join the channel with your usual IRC client.
Thanks

i cetainly didnt register the channel because "i thought it was funny"!
After joining the channel severals times and finding nothing there and no such channel even being registered i registered it and thought see who comes in.
As it happens no-one did and i havent been in there since.

Fair enough.
Well, now that you know where we are, feel free to drop in any time :)

Thanks! i will do.
