I'm trying (without luck) to get an Etherlink III (3C589D-TP) 3Com card to work with an A1200. The thing is, that as soon as I insert the card, the link-light comes on, no matter if there actually is any cable attached to the card or not. Also, with a cable insterted, my router (on the other end of the cable) doesn't get any link. The card works just fine in an IBM laptop.
The PCMCIA-port looks ok, no broken/missing pins, and the 3Com-card slots in just fine. The Amiga can also read what type of card it is (PrepCard finds it), so it's somewhat alive.
I believe the parallel-port of the Amiga is broken (one databit is constant zero, making the output garbled), but other than that, the computer works fine. Maybe this could be related to my problem? Or maybe the PCMCIA-port is just broken?
BTW, I've installed cardpatch and cardreset, and it appears to be possible to reset the card (the link-light goes out for a second or so) using cardreset.

Do you know anyone in your local area with an A1200 or A600 that you could try it in? then you'll know if its the Amiga at fault, or if its drivers.

Are you sure that card is supported with A1200 drivers?
I'd guess the card isn't basic enough to work in the A1200.

I have the same card, works fine. The driver (3c589.device) doesn't support (yet) blinking the led during RX/TX and is always lit (well, it blinks a little when starting up the driver) You have to have the TCP/IP stack running to get the router side led active.
And here's the direct link to the driver:
3c589.lha (http://www.aminet.net/hard/drivr/3c589.lha)

yeh I have the same card and it works a treat. The light on mine used to always be on, but since I hooked it up to my router it's off untill I connect up and although the light on the cards dongle doesn't flash the one on my router does.
